I just had my 3 year annual oil change/ vehicle check from local dealer. When I picked it up, Service tech advised me that the inside of the front tires was excessively worn, and tires needed changing!! Nothing was mentioned on the service report, but the tires were worn. I plan to take it to a front end alignment shop today to check toe-in, etc.
Surprised that the front is out at only 9k miles, and the wear is this excessive. No front curb bumps that I remember, or other front damage. Anyone else have similar problems??

 

Unfortunately... a) factory alignment seems to be off, in my case it created excessive wear. Warranty only covered aliment, but not the cost of replacing tires. b) OEM P-Zero tires are not at all durable, even by performance tire standards. Michelin Pilot 4S are both more durable and offer superior grip.

 

Yes, I am definitely switching tire. Doesn't sound like the P-Zeros are very durable.

 

my stock p zeros lasted 42k kms, but i got awd, i drive my car pretty spiritely and have tracked the p zeros 2 times, but the pilot sports are another world

 

I only have 9K miles on my F-Type. Never track, drive mostly around the city, not excessively crazy. Alignment is the only reason for this wear???

 

Alignment is likely part of the issue, but not all roads are created equal. Some areas use different types of surfaces for their roads which can cause more or less wear. P-Zeros going between 9-12k miles is pretty normal.

 

I am almost entirely on city streets, and the wear is all on the inner side of the tires.

 

In short, you cannot compare 9k miles of your driving to 9k miles of someone driving in a different area of the country and/or world. There are too many variables (weather being a big one which also has an affect on tire life). However, you still should be a little higher in mileage before that much wear but not much more. 12-13k is about the most you'll ever see from P-Zeros so 9k is not that far off. However, alignment is still the first thing to have checked out.

There are changes to alignments that can help remove access wear but they come at a cost for handling sharpness. You rarely get something for nothing.

 

Something is off. Check the alignment. I have close to 30k miles on my factory original tires. Granted 28k of that is highway commuting, it still shows the car shouldn’t automatically eat tires like that.

 

Chiming in with others, the factory alignments have been spotty. Add to that, the recommended toe-in is much more aggressive than I would recommend. My inner tire wear resolved itself when I had them dial in a fraction of the factory specified toe-in. It also resulted in a lighter feel without any wandering.

 

The car is going in Tues. for alignment. Tire change will be held off as long as possible since wear is so narrow, and we are not in rainy season yet.

 

What exactly did you have them set the toe to? I am going to have my car aligned in the next few weeks.

 

I can understand how you feel, but the P-Zero's never last very long. Under the best of circumstances you can expect what ? 15,000 miles. Maybe a little more if you are in eco mode 100% of the time. So worst case they are gone 6,000 miles too soon. And you will be a lot happier with the replacement tires. I have Michelins PS and am quite pleased. On the V70R I went to Toyo Proxies, because I think a idea of an ultra performance tire on that wagon is silly.

 

I’ll pull the target specs tomorrow morning.

 

I finally got to look at the tires. Had to turn them hard left/right. Inside edges worn down to minimal tread. I will have the front end aligned by local mech, then replace with Michelines What is the best version to use???

It's been my experience, the few new cars I have purchased, the alignments is lacking from the factory. I change the oil real soon after purchase and get an alignment. I learned like you did. Interesting, yesterday I advised my son to get an alignment at 1000 miles on his new vehicle. it's much cheaper than replacing tires.

 

I have to take the car back to the Dealer for parts they did not have when I went in for annual service (window chrome). I plan to have them align at this time. Does anyone know if alignment is covered by guarantee? Seems it should be, but with JLR, one never knows....
