Speaking of all things related to gas...has anyone ever heard a high pitched sound when they open the gas cap? Has happened only once, with about 1/4 tank left decided to fill up and when I opened the cap it emitted a high pitched whine for about 10 seconds.
Happens on all my cars with evaporative emission systems on them.
Not always and never that I can remember on the FT, but like Sr. Terminally Unhingd, it has happened on all my other cars. Either the tank is under vacuum or pressure causing the squeal. Nothing to worry about though.
On the return drive from MI, I put in 17.5 gallons when I believe the car said I had 60 miles to empty. I was averaging around 28mpg (indicated) at the time.
Not sure I trust the 'miles to empty'. It would be helpful if someone would run out of gas, so we could see what 'miles to empty' said, and how much fuel it would take.
I've never let the Jag get that low but my Infiniti Q50 I let get to the point where it was just three dashes --- Freaked me out a bit. Made it to a station about 2 miles after it went to the dashes and when I filled it I calculated that I only had about half a gallon left. That was cutting it a bit too close.
