I installed a web based/wifi garage door opener with Apple HomeKit capabilities. After using it a few times, it synced up with my CarPlay unit so that ever time I get near my house, the screen gives me the option to access my garage.

I love the creativity, you can do so much with all the various services out there. Just have to link everything together. Although I must ask, how much more useful is this than just using the homelink garage door opener?

 

good question… I’m notified anytime the garage door opens and closes, I can control the door from anywhere, and I have access/control over multiple garage doors. I’m sometimes absent minded when I’m leaving in the AM for work and will forget to close the door so it’s nice to be able to check while driving and not have to turn back. But the real reason why I even bought the unit in the first place is because i lost my garage door remote and found this as an option on Amazon.

And I’m able to open the garage door, remote start with incontrol to let the car warm up a few minutes before I need to head out. Sounds minor but it was really nice during the winter months and we’ll worth the $50 and 20 minutes to install.

 

Ah that's true. I have a MyQ wifi enabled garage door opener, there are times when I check the garage on if I forgot to close it, etc. Definitely nice to have that remote capability.

Also, super jealous about your remote start. MT models don't have it :/

 

Nice application! Just a quick question: how do you update your F-Type to be compatible to the Apple CarPlay? As far as I know it's not available from the dealership for any pre-2018 Jag. Thanks!

I have a LiftMaster door opener and it has the app already for the phone to open/close and see when someone is opening it if you are not there as well so you get alerts. It allows you to open it from anywhere or close from anywhere. That is how I found out many things about my ex wife-hence the word EX and the license plates NEVAGN Would be cool to access on the Jag screen but I don't think I would use it since it is already on my phone. Handy feature though.

 

I can notice you have the standard display with buttons and have CarPlay . Can you refer me to the place you got the component to be able to get CarPlay please ?

 

I have the Meross garage opener as well. Works great, I can recommend it!
Got it even working for a sliding gate. Perfect solution to close or open the gate with CarPlay.
