Default Garage Queen Tactics and Strategies

You've all seen the 'never driven in the rain' ads. People pamper the cars they really care about; some would never daily drive such a car.

In Portland, over the last few days due to ash/soot on the roads from the Eagle Creek and other fires I kept the F-Type tucked away.

I also hate parking her out 'there' in the harsh world - not so much rain, but 85f+ days. Always thought heat/sun ages a car more than rain every will.

Car cover, of course .

I really, really love this car and enjoy it more when it is a special treat to drive it, not all the time (have second vehicle).

Anyone else keep their cars out of the sun, the dirt ... in the garage??

I spend too much money on my mods and tunes to keep my cars garaged. Maybe when I turn 50 I will get something just to have it sitting around.

For me, dirt and sunlight (UV) are non-issues. That's what the wrap and nano-coating are there for. That said, I never park in the sun if it can be avoided because the resulting heat buildup in the car can be massively deleterious.

If the weather's good, I leave the top down when I park at work. Pretty close to full sun, which I know isn't good for the interior, but it's too damn pretty to put the top up.

Funny, I'd rather park in the sun vs. deal with tree sap. I do aim the windshield North if possible so the tinted windows do best at keeping the car cooler. I never, ever cover a nice car outside. Even the very best cover will get dust / grime on the inside and attack the finish.

Also top down vs. up, for the life of me I can't imagine why you would want to leave it down. Seen too many interiors get wrecked from the top being down. Rain, UV, bird crap, jealous passers by etc.

Don't let anyone make you feel bad about looking after your car; I've had the privilege of owning a few classic cars that were in incredible shape due to the foresight of their previous owners.

I drive my F Type hard on occasion but I don't drive it in the winter, on dirt roads and keep it in a heated garage. Unlike some cars I've owned, I will drive it in the rain but probably wouldn't take it out if it was pouring before I left.

Cheers,
Dave

Having two vehicles is the key. When in doubt I take the van and call it a day. Knowing that my baby is safe and sound.

2nd that on keeping cars out of sun. Here in SoCal, there are plenty of examples of cars with faded/cracked paint from sitting out in the elements, it's not a good look.

When not in use, my jag is under a flannel cover, in the garage.

I try to avoid taking it out in the harsh weather. I spend so much times keeping it clean and polished I hate seeing it get in a mess.

Yes, garage queen for me too. Unfortunately, I had it out during those record breaking 115 degree days last weekend... But was able to do some nice back road with only two (insane) bicyclists out.

Driving in scorching weather - not a problem. Air blowing over the car, inside has AC on.

It is leaving a nice car out in 100f+ degree heat all day that is a no go. Interior ages at a 100x rate, etc. Short term only.

Speaking of that, ash gone 95% from the pesty forest fires here. Temp about 73. I am now green lighting a drive - .

This is all in good fun. I am really not a priss about the car as much as it sounds that way.

Here in Vegas if sun and heat was an issue car would sit in garage 11 months a year! And the 12th month is when it rains. But my car is always garaged at home!

I cringe when I hear the term "garage queen".
