Help! 2020 f type r Engine loud rattling and ticking
I am so nervous here. I was driving on the highway and noticed the car felt sluggish. As soon as I get off I take a turn and start heading some dramatic ticking and metallic clanging.

it only has 32,000km so around 20k miles. Oil levels were ok on thrusday. Any thoughts on what it could be? So worried I get a warranty rejection from Jaguarm. The appointment is tomorrow morning

We do, but coincidentally it happened about 200 yards from the dealership so I just parked it there. Fingers crossed.
Will do. My Buddy says it’s top end maybe lifters or rod or slipped a tooth on timing belt

DJS wins the Interwebz today, his was the first response and he said, quote: "I’d take a quick peek under the hood to be sure both belts are still intact."
You win again - that's what the mechanic just said...they will inspect whether the belt did any damage
Apparently the thermostat was leaking which did damage to the belt. Serpentine belt also needs to get replaced BC of this. Call covered under warranty phew
To be fair I often take part in spirited drives, but I agree. Apparently the engine is rock solid though.
I also shredded an SC belt twice. Both times I over revved the motor and the belt jumped a rib when it went into limp mode. Belt did not completely tear up but started to slap the **** out of the engine compartment. Don’t know if my larger crank pulley contributed to this or not.
Actually, there are very few engine issues with these cars…if you want to read about “too many” or “too serious” engine issues, a check of the the BMW and Mercedes forums can provide a different perspective.. What these engines do indeed have is an issue with the original plastic coolant pipes (and that is not limited to Jaguars these days), failing fuel injectors (also common on other engines) and 02 sensors (but these carry a 15 year warranty with Jaguar). But we have to remember that the forums, almost by definition, gather messages from owners who have experienced a problem. The majority of owners, those who have no issues, rarely post.
A leaking water pump causing the problem …well, on the particular engine in question there have been a few modifications made. Is there a possibility that in the course of installing or using the modifications to their full potential (trying to be cautious here) the water pump may have been affected in some way?

Glad it’s something simple for the OP, assuming the shredded belt didn’t do any damage.
