Default HORRIBLE noise at high speed & RPM

2015 F-Type 3.0
49k miles
Was running with a Porsche on the way home today and once I hit about 6000-6500 RPM (maybe 130-140 MPH) I heard an awful ringing/screaming sound coming from my engine bay. I immediately let off and the noise went away once speed and/or RPM was reduced. If I had to describe the sound it was almost like the brakes on a railroad train. Reallyyy hoping I didn't push the car too hard and I'm worried it might be the transmission or camshaft.. maybe a rod trying to break loose?
Any insight or experience would be greatly appreciated as I haven't found anything related anywhere else.

I'm sure whatever that noise was isn't as bad as the unbroken tone of two notes (B – F) coming from rearwards, accompanied by blue lights...

Well to be honest it's arguably worse

worse than losing your driving license, facing reckless dirving charges, being dumped by your insurance company and getting your car impounded for weeks ?

Best of luck with the diagnosis and potential repairs.

Your car is supercharged, right? That could be it. The screeching sound of a bad bearing under load. Not familiar with superchargers, but it shouldn't be too expensive to repair; just don't run the engine hard at all until you fix whatever it is. Good luck. Oh, and a friendly suggestion: Don't post any info not strictly necessary, or some folks will ruin your thread before it even gets started. Something like I 'ran the car hard' should have sufficed in this case. Just trying to help. Good luck brother, and keep us posted.

Well hard to get diagnosed from distance, but just my 2c:
- fatal failures tend to express themselves more or less all the time, so if crankshaft or something else broke in the gearbox I think you would know by now
- this metal-to-metal noise could be maybe a stone between a caliper and a brake disc, then it might fell of and you are silent from then
- if you drove home without symptoms, I would personally try to replicate the sound/situation and record it on a phone and then go to service
- if you think it is unsafe then well, go to service for a diagnostic and engine bay check if something might be loose

130-140mph!!
That's why I probably should not buy a new 8 cylinder R.
I have enough difficulty keeping the 6 anywhere close to the legal limit!!

Can you replicate the noise while parked and revving the engine to higher RPMs. It could be as simple as a belt or tensioner

@Bslack, best to take the vehicle to a Jaguar specialist and explain the situation you experienced.

Don't attempt to rev the engine if it's not under load as damage to the connecting rods can result.

Isn't the rev limited much lower when the car is not moving?

I wonder if it was the supercharger belt slipping. When they slip it's usually only under heavy engine load (sounds like yours was at the time) and it's an awful screeching sound. Also from other threads I don't think a belt slipping would throw a code. In fact a member on this forum had his SC belt break and no code was thrown.

I recall I got a bizarre noise when my supercharger belt shredded, it was new and the wrong size, it completely shredded and looked like an afro.

The supercharger whine is noticeable at high revs, but not very loud, I doubt it was that as it is more of a whistle.

Unfortunately any comment on what this could be would be pure conjecture based on the limited information you have. As long as you weren't bouncing off the rev limiter for a long time (doesn't sound like it) then just driving hard should not be a reason for any failure of a good health engine.
I suggest the following:
- Listening to the engine (hood open) at different rpms to see if you can hear anything.
- Change the oil and filter and cut open the filter and look for any evidence of metal shavings. You can also send a sample off to blackstone laboratories for analysis -https://www.blackstone-labs.com. They will send you a test kit to return a sample of oil. (Approx $35 cost).
- Look also for evidence of supercharger or ancillary drive belt slippage.

Not sure if it was a sound similar to that in the video, but if it is I would put it in the category of don't worry about it.
I took it to Jag and they were not able to diagnose (it popped up after I had my car serviced by them).
I've had the car to higher speeds prior to the service with no whine.
I have tracked the car several times hitting speeds of ~144 w/o any issues since the noise first arose.

i would bet your left nut that the noise is windscreen related. I had that in a car, it was windscreen trim.

4k in N or P from the factory.
But a VAP tune gets rid of it.

This. It's the quickest way to check if a used vehicle you're interested has a VAP tune.
