Default How do I charge my battery?

I have a 2016 F-Type. First, do I have one battery or two? I've seen it stated both ways. I only see on in my trunk; but I don't know where the 2nd one should be.

I have an old school battery charger (probably over 20 years old). I have connected it directly to the battery in the trunk, without disconnecting it. It didn't seem to charge my battery.

I tried connecting it under the hood (front - passenger side). That didn't seem to charge it either.

My battery is so low, the car won't start. Help!

1. You only have the one battery.
2. With the “old fashioned” (6-10 amp) chargers it is always safest to disconnect the battery (negative connection first) before attempting a charge. Damage to the car’s charging system might otherwise occur.
3. Despite that, connecting a charger should have charged your battery. Sounds like it is dead.

Right after I had my S shipped to Houston from Newport Beach, it began having battery issues. I would drive it, then the next morning battery would be too low to start. Perhaps the change to 90+% humidity and 90+ degree days had something to do with it. It was so low I had to use the metal key to open the doors to gain access to the hood release. I connected a battery charger I have had since the 1980s on the posts under the hood, and let it charge overnight, off and on for a few days. Since then, no issues whatsoever with the battery, even if I don't drive it for several days.

Good to know - I'll stop looking for the "other" battery.

First problem was, I had the charger on the 2amp setting. I moved it to 10amp mode, allowed it to charge for about 4 hours. That wasn't enough charge. That's when I posted.
I left the charger connected (at the front of the car), on 10amp, overnight, and viola engine starts. It really surprises my that the battery was so dead it took an over night charge.

The display still says low battery. So I have it back on the charger; but this time, with the battery disconnected.

Thanks for the help.

The Jaguar battery is an AGM type (Absorbed Glass Mat). These DO take longer to recharge after sitting.

+++++++++++++++++++

Been using this for all of our cars, except mine has "Corvette" labeled on it.
If you have a C8, it won't work on the Jag. That's because the C8 is mid-engined, and the F is front-engined.

Luckily, mine's C7, but plugs in the back trunk, so I flip it around for Jag, Mercedes, & BMW to park backwards in garage, same thing...

If you have a socket in the trunk, yes, just plug it in. If by "lighter hole" you mean the one in the cabin then no, that's ignition switched so won't charge the battery when the car is off.

I think the charger originally sold by Jag for the F-type included a socket to be installed somewhere in the trunk, that the charger plugs into. You might look around the trunk area to see if there’s a jack/socket.

Default Battery Tender question.

I recently replaced the main battery in my 2014 F-Type. ( 2 battery lay out). I believe the smaller stop/start battery died sometime last year as the system stopped working. I don't much care for the auto stop/start so I haven't replaced that battery. I have always put my battery tender attached in the engine bay. My question is, since the smaller battery is dead and won't take a charge, will the battery tender keep charging and potentially damage my main battery by overcharging?

No. I’ve used a battery tender on mine for winter storage for 12 years - initially with a good 2nd battery, then with a dead one, then with it removed. Never had an issue. No warning from a dead or missing 2nd battery, start/stop just disables itself.

Are the charging terminals in the engine bay that a battery tender can connected? Where are they located? Thanks

Yes, that's where I connect my maintainer.

The + terminal is under the red flip-up then lift-off caps (front-right of engine bay). Connect your red/+ lead there, then connect your black/- lead to the unmarked grounding stud that's sticking up about 10 inches to the left.

A proper automatic tender/maintainer/float charger will have an overcharge-prevention chip that cycles the charging on/off as needed.
