If it weren't for the F-Type what would you have bought?

I think for same price as AMG GT S I'd take a SLS. You need a car with crazy doors in your stable.

Thank you. Overjoyed to be here.

Soon is somewhat relative. I have to wait until early summer for the release of the 6 speed. But that is indeed coming up quickly since I've already been waiting more than 2 years for Jag to come to their senses with the F-Type to accommodate us dinosaurs unable (or unwilling) to accommodate progress (and superior performance) in favor of old school driving fun.

LOL, I'm with you on "old-school." I have only owned sports and GT performance-oriented cars over the years, and they have ALWAYS been manuals until the F-Type. However, I do have to begrudingly say that the ZF automatic is pretty amazing, and there's no debating it's better at shifting than any human ever was. It's also quite fun with the paddles.

Having said all that, I will probably have to bite the bullet and acquire a proper 6-speed manual F-Type at some point, because like you, nothing matches the fun and involvement of the eternal quest for perfect shifts.

+1 Without any doubt.

I must say - and not for the first time here either (and I "get it" [re] a proper stick) - that the gear changes using the paddle shifters are incredibly razor sharp and silky smooth and an absolute joy to use. Must I really have a stick in the F-Type? The answer, for me, is a resounding "NO".

Your opinions may vary.

You are truly blessed. Those of us that are imprinted on stirring a box of gears no longer have access to the superior performance of the computer enhanced hydraulic units.

But wait.......maybe we just need two more gears to be competitive.
(just kidding)

Of course the shifts are perfect, fast, silky smooth, and all that. But, there is no challenge, and it is too easy, which takes away from the experience of "absolute joy" Some of us derive tremendous pleasure out of the challenge of being as smooth as any human can be.

For me to achieve "absolute joy," I have to absolutely nail a heel and toe shift while hitting the apex perfectly, with the tires at the edge of the limits of grip. And yes, our opinions do vary.

Understood and agree with your assessment and, of course, your opinion. "They" used to knock the NSX for being "too easy" - even in stick (which is what I had in two of them) - when it was, nevertheless, a brilliant automobile.

The only thing which matters is what matters to you!

Best regards,

+1. And that's why the smart auto makers offer lots of options. MINI lets one You-ify.

A Superlight Caterham on a four wheeled trailer towed by an older RS4 Avant, and still had change for a tank full of juice

Looked hard at a Z06/Z07.

In the end, the jag's looks, sound, and refinement won the day.

Agreed, the Vette is great performance at a great value, but the styling is not subtle.

Good to hear. I have owned quite a few Corvettes over the years. My favorite was a 67 435 horse coupe. While fun, I was quickly bored by the 2005 model I owned for less than a year. I love to tinker.

Beautiful 67, lhoboy. Here is the coupe I owned for about 7 years. 427/435, M21 Close ratio gearbox, 4:11 posi rear - a rocketship.
