Default Infotainment and HVAC Stops Functioning

The infotainment screen and HVAC system on my 2020 F-Type stopped working several times this past Sunday while driving 400 miles home from Northern Wisconsin; what happens is the screen goes dark, the music silences, the center vent closes, and all fan operations cease, two to about six minutes after this happens it all fires up again and works for 15-40 minutes until the next episode. Any thoughts on what this could be? I'm guessing this should be covered under the 5 year warranty?

A couple of suggestions. First, check the fuses. Could be this simple. Also, make sure you have a fully charged battery. Lot's of issues with these cars on weak batteries. Most of the time, it's one of these 2 things. Your symptoms (works then doesn't then works again) doesn't sound like a fuse or battery, unfortunately, so it might be similar to a problem I recently found. This may be helpful:

I just tracked down a frustrating problem over the last 3 months. I got a particular code (P2127), and the car would go into limp mode. The code was associated with the fly-be-wire throttle circuit. I replaced every component in the chain, and still had the code. Spent months doing this, still kept throwing the code. Finally, I went through the wiring diagrams (available here, there's hundred of pages) and tracked down the relevant circuit. The diagrams showed that the wiring ran through a couple of particular plugs. I tracked down these plugs, and found one with severely strained wiring. I cleaned this plug with contact cleaner and remounted the plug to alleviate the stress. Problem solved!

The lesson here is 2-fold: one, there's LOTS of wiring and plugs in these cars, and those connections can degrade over time. With spurious electrical problems, if its not fhe fuse or battery, the next place I'd check is wiring diagrams. Looks for a plug or plugs that contains wires from the impacted systems, and then go physcially inspect and clean those. It worked for me. Good luck.

Your 2020 has the newer infotainment system. It did have a couple of software updates, one of which was supposed to resolve symptoms you are describing. If you have a dealer with good techs, you can find out if they know about it and they should be able to update it under warranty. The problem is not all dealer service departments are aware of it so I'd call them first before making a trip down there.

But like always, battery first. Even after a long drive an aging battery may be low on voltage. Charge it fully overnight and see if the condition persists.

P.S. We missed you in New England last week!

I agree that it sounds as if power is being removed from the HU. I'd be looking for a power source or plug that ALSO powers the center vent, since that closes on shutdown.

Plenty of videos on how to access the head unit in the CarPlay topics.

Before you do that, I would verify all power & ground connections from the trunk/boot to the engine compartment, Wiggle the wires under the fusebox by the LF windshield/cowl, too.

The only problems that are worse than electrical issues are INTERMITTENT electric issues.

I just had the car in for an oil and trans fluid change last month, I changed the battery 2 years ago and have the car on a NOCO when it's sitting.

We missed the gang what was another outstanding New England tour, vacation and work scheduling got in the way this year. Looking forward to making a return in 25!!!

My concern is a connectivity issue, those can be the worst.
