I just looked into the facts, what does Anrdoid Auto bring me extra. What do I desperately need...

NOTHING !!!

I already have means to call from my steering wheel, I can play music and I have satnav, so I don't have to follow with android crap in my car infotainment...

Waze on the Nav screen would be nice. You’re right though, since you have to connect the phone to the car you might as well just have it on the phone. The Scosche Mount makes it easy to see. Works for me so I’m not going to buy a new f type just to have waze on the screen.

My previous car had android auto. Waze was the big thing. Spotify on screen was nice, too.

I'm right there with you.
I've been using Android Auto on my phone since day one, with a Scosche. Works great. I can switch between Waze and Google maps, 3 sources for music controlled from my steering wheel, as well as the phone controls. Add to that voice control through Google assistant.

I have a MY 18.5 and it has InControl Touch Pro with a SIM card for wifi. I'm wondering if this update/upgrade would be available for my model year too?

Default Carplay and F-Type

I have a 2018 F-Type R - took it to my dealer to install Carplay, they said that they have been having problems upgrading existing Range Rovers and have stopped until they have more info from Land Rover but this would be the first Jaguar so would try.
They needed to update the Infotainment software first and then install carplay - the infotainment upgrade worked however they could NOT get carplay installed - they kept the car for two days trying.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

The SIM is for 3G/4G LTE which serves the Wifi - hotspot in the car. If you can connect your mobile to the cars hotspot, then you have WiFi and probably will get later the upgrade.

Buy I have a second SIM, but NO WiFi, and I won't get Android Auto or Apple carplay [ MY2019] .

do you have any details on the software update? (Version? Tsb? Feature benefits?) I’m hoping your dealer gets it solved as I would love to get CarPlay (but setting expectations low per all the other discussion around my19 only. I’m also wanting to get text messages read. I think with all the updates and mid-yr variants and options, even dealers aren’t sure what a car “should be able to get”

Gregg
I had to sign a document agreeing to upgrade the system to the "Single Screen" InControl Touch PRO Variant - also known as "Phase 4 (18B)" the doc says this change is IRREVERSIBLE and as a result will only have one screen.
When I got the car back after the failed carplay install it was still multi screen - so I assume that the Phase 4 upgrade must have failed. That said they did say they had put a newer better performing version of the Infotainment system - looks the same as the one that came with the car to me...

Default CarPlay

Isnt CarPlay only avaible for USA right now? Becasue Jaguar released that as a press releses "... avaibel in USA End of 2018..."
I have a 19.5 with SIM Slot and the Big Screen, but NO Wifi Hot Spot!

Does anyone have a 19.5 with WiFi Hot Spot in Europe? I dont think so, because its not possbile to order one. I have checked the US Site and there is a Option to order the "Smartphone Pack" which is basicly CarPlay. But this is not possible in Germany.

And about the updates: They come OTA (Over the Air) for ALL 19.5 Models with SIM Card. I will check tomorrow if there is a new version.

- I have a 19.5 with SIM Slot and the Big Screen, but NO Wifi Hot Spot! -------------------------------------------------> Strange as DE was standard with WiFi : check your setup. If you see a MAC number, you do have WiFi !!!
- Does anyone have a 19.5 with WiFi Hot Spot in Europe --------------------------------------------------> I think DE/CH/UK normally have WiFi [ I just checked the DE brochure and it says that 'mobile phone pack' is standard, so you have WiFi !!!].
- And about the updates: They come OTA (Over the Air) for ALL 19.5 Models with SIM Card.---------------------> I have MY2019, but NOT OTA... I fiddeled around 2x with usb-stick and still many-many obsolute map data...

What is your source ???

Register and use your VIN to get the pdf with your build spec:

https://topix.landrover.jlrext.com/topi ... lookupForm

You can regsiter for free as a private person, enter your cars VIN and see what's on it..
You can download two pdf's with data from your car.

I believe it’s map updates that come over-the-air. Doubt that software updates do.

Interesting. I couldn't find that screen (on my XE with ICTP). May be a feature of the updated software.

I would NOT try that, untill you checked with your dealer. Often they first WIPE the memory and then download the new version ; if it doesn't succeed
you are left with NOTHING...

Better be safe then sorry...

Hey Dan, how do you call from your steering wheel? The buttons on my wheel do not allow me to scroll through a list of phone numbers or select one in any way!? Jaguar did not make it easy for us to call anyone from our car, which is a pretty basic requirement nowadays.

I believe that just answers an incoming call.

+1. I was hoping someone would tell me otherwise, but the phone button seem to be only usable to answer an incoming call, end it, or when the phone function is selected on the screen, call the first number that appears on top of the list. I have not found a way to scroll through a list of phone numbers and dial one from the steering wheel, despite what the manual says.

In any case, given that the numbers do not appear on the instrument cluster, scrolling through them by touching the screen while keeping an eye on the road is suicidal.

The whole system is beautiful, but not designed for the driver...
