Default Interior storage less on 2016?

I just noticed that on my 2016, there is NOT a storage compartment behind the center console. The owners manual shows a small vertical compartment that looks like it's between the driver and passenger seat.

Has anyone else noticed this stealth change? There is so little storage space in the cabin that anything extra would welcomed, but taking away storage space? Boo....

I think that compartment is only in the convertible. I don't have it in my 2015 R either.

And it was an option on the 2014 convertible - I think I got it as part of the Premium Pack.

My 2015 V6S Coupe has it, if I understand correctly what you're referring to. I have a small compartment just behind the cup holders and a small area up around shoulder height between driver and passenger side (which is what I think you're talking about). I agree, every little bit helps (although that's not what the car's about, but that's besides the point here).

There is a panel there that comes out quite easily (pull from the top). Inside is a big cavity with a bit of room so there could have been one. Right now there are a bunch of wires and a module that has Bluetooth and FoMoCo on it.

Above the blank panel is an open hole that you can put things in.

Going to actually read my manual now.

Exactly where I am talking about. The owners manual appears to show a small compartment where this panel is located. I actually pulled the panel off trying to see if it was just a hard to open compartment, and say the wiring and modules you mentioned.

Underneath the shoulder level area, and above the center console, the owners manual seems to show an additional compartment. See the post directly before this one.

Not a big deal, just curious about it.

I believe the extra storage is only on the vert. Coupes only seem to have a small pocket
At the top of the panel in between the seats

There's no back storage compartment on my '14 base convertible. There is this:

I believe this is called the 'lockable stowage compartment'. Amusingly, on some early cars (including mine), when you locked the car, the compartment door would fall open. (They had a simple fix for it.) It isn't very big, but on the convertible, you need everything you can get. I can squeeze a baseball cap in it, and I keep my tire pressure and tread depth gauges in it - lockable is good on a convertible.

I just asked my salesman about it and he said that they deleted it for MY2016 as it was always falling open and was "a warranty item".

In that case, I'm glad I don't have one.

Well, they had a TSB for that, and I had assumed they fixed it in production as we stopped hearing about that issue pretty quickly.

Duct tape? That'll fix anything.

I think that it was just the convertibles that had this. The pics in this thread and in the manual are all convertibles.

Sorry to perform some thread necromancy! But since the coupe is missing that storage compartment and it's a super easy panel to pop off, I wonder if the panel from the convertible would fit? I've looked for pics online, and, best I can tell because the pics aren't great, the panels appear to have the same overall shape.

Even just having the one with the elastic strap, like Foosh posted, would be a huge improvement on my coupe. I hate having nowhere convenient to put my phone or wallet or whatever else.

Anyone know if the panels can be swapped? Or in a position to compare the panels between the coupe and 'vert?

You can't see it very well in the picture above, but below the elastic strap is stretchable cargo netting. It was convenient for sunglasses, phones, etc.

Exactly! I'd love to have that, at the least, in my coupe. The storage compartment would be super cool though.

I have a sizable uncovered cubby between the 2 seats at shoulder level. Don't you have that?
