It's not really the paint that will be the concern, it's the filler that will be used. It will be more brittle and not withstand flex so it will make even minor brushes in the future basically revert back to pre-repair look.

You mentioned you were looking for advice, so the advice you are being given in the thread is to repair it by replacing the bumper. It may not always be the advice you are seeking.

And I appreciate the advise on the body work, I don't on the other hand see me asking for advice or opinions on my driving skill.

That's the internet. You can't ask for information in a public setting and expect to only get back what you want to hear.

That's a valid point, but I was hoping the F type forum would be more supportive overall, I mean so far its been one of the best forums I've been on, but it looks like some people just aren't a fan.

It might be time for everyone to retreat to their respective corners and come back out with a smile.

back on topic: the cracks in the bumper skin will need more than just filler. Reinforcing fiberglass will need to be applied to the backside to provide strength before the filler is applied from the front. However, a competent body shop will know how to do this properly. I personally, would just replace with a new skin.

FWIW, I watched an episode of Wheeler Dealers on the Motor Trend channel a few months ago in which the show's project had a cracked bumper. The solution was to have a speciality shop "plastic weld" it to paintable condition.

We expect better standards of communication on this forum. If I have to return to this thread again to remove traded insults, ALL those involved will receive an appropriate ban.

Good afternoon Graham.

Of course you are always right—please tell your wife I said so—and, thanks to you and the vast majority of the members on this Forum (and based on my extremely limited experience [re] forums or even social media) this Forum is a bastion of civility.

And you (hopefully) won’t have to return to this thread to witness traded insults. Just look outside your window and to Parliament to witness all the traded insults you [don’t] want as the Brexit vote comes up again.

Needless to say I wish you luck with whatever outcome you desire. You have my vote.

Best regards,
Jay

P.S. Yes, my sending you this “public” message was intentional.

The individuals who were trading insults decided to continue despite my warning and have both received a 7 Day Ban. Clearly this thread is going nowhere except downhill.
