Default Issues at high speed

Hey guys , I have a 2016 ftype R with velocity ap downpipes , pulleys , tune , transmission tune , and mina gallery intake installed. I have been having some type of hesitation around 130+mph and was curious if anyone else had this issue or have an idea what it could be . Car runs fine all the way until 130+mph. Was thinking of doing datalog , what should I look for ?

One thought would be plugs/coils, given the hesitation. With the mods you listed, you have effectively created an increase in boost and power pretty significantly. Typically at this level of increase, you would want to go with 1 heat range cooler Iridium plugs and gap them down to .~036.

Assuming you have good coils and plugs currently, may just need the cooler plugs and smaller gap to prevent pre-detonation and handle additional pressures on the spark gap. I have similar upgrades and maybe a few others, and I put cooler plugs and it runs really well with no issues.

Good luck.

Try the ones in my signature - These:

NGK 96024 Iridium Spark Plugs Heat Range 8 - Gapped to .036

And my DIY here if you want to do it yourself.

I had a similar issue with my 997 TT after adding about 100 HP and the plugs cleared it up. It was sputtering in the mid-range.

Good luck.

Def colder plugs matter.

You mentioned a trans tune? Does this help? Thats the only thing I haven't added.

I actually did not change my plugs...No issues and was only ~ 25K miles...so left them for now.

The OEM Part number is C2Z18619 And they are ~$69/each
I also found THESE for $241 for 8. OEM Replacement - Bremi.

You're gonna change out all of those things and still have the issue. Let me guess it happens at the top of 4th gear etc? It's in the tune, talk to vap.

Im about to hit 60k so I needa change em out anyways especially with the way I push the car a lot. Wouldn't hurt , also not 4th gear more like 6-7th gear I believe , it's always around 134+mph and it happens I'd say mid range rpm

To be fair Terrance, i have a vap tune already and have done for nearly 4 years with no problems till approx 6 months ago so it cant be the tune.
It happens in whatever gear im in around 130ish.

If it occurs at 130mph regardless of gear, it can't be engine related. Sounds like it's transmission related.

I changed my plugs to ngk and gapped em to what's recommended and put brand new OEM coils and issue is still happening . I talked to VAP and they said they never heard of a issue like this , my car runs perfectly fine until it hits 130+mph . Not sure what it could be

I've had this issue for a while when I had my viezu tune. Viezu couldn't figure it out so they just dumped boost on the top end of the rpms to stop it from happening. Told vap about the issue, and ended up buying their tune. It's an issue in the tune that they need to turn off in the tuning for overheating cats if I'm not mistaken. Let me guess. You can do a pull the first time and it pulls great with no issue. Then the next time you try there is hesitation on the top end? I ran behind the issue for a year with viezu, changed out damn near everything. And still had the issue. It was in the tuning all along. There is a video on YouTube about it from skrrrt garage. He had the same issue, and vap fixed it for him.

In my view it's clear, make a Datalog File (VAP have Software and Hardware for this) with this mistake and send it to VAP. 100% you can see in the Datalog File the problem... I had also a "problem" at 3500 rpm with 30% throttle, my cat was jumping a little hit from 3500 to 4000 rpm from alone! VAP checked my Datalog file and send me a new Mod File for my ECM, and no all feels good :-)
Good luck
Andi
