Long time lurker of the forums and been looking at buying a Manual F-Type for almost 10 years! I just picked up this beauty in Vancouver, BC and drove it all the way to Quebec, QC!
I just picked up my F-Type (2016 Base 6MT with 59,000km) and drove it a solid 2000km before having my first issue. I am not sure if I missed a gear or something went wrong, but at one point, there would always be quite loud grinding noise when shifting from neutral to 1st gear (or downshifting from 2nd to 1st when not stopped).
Long story short, we made it to 5000km by stopping and shifting 2nd to 1st (always) and it seems the transmission gave up just when we arrived home from bringing back the car.
We brought the car to the transmission specialist and he said that the flywheel was pretty much destroyed, so we ordered a new one from Jaguar with a new clutch as well.
Now, we have brand new flywheel and clutch, but the issue of griding 1st gear still remains... transmission shop says it could be a synchro issue. He cannot find part for it besides a $13,000 brand new transmission from Jaguar... which he says they don't sell spare parts of. Most shops won't touch it due to being so rare...
Anyone ever had this issue or know of a clever solution to fix? I've found 2 options for 1st gear synchro, but will they fit... no one knows!
