Jaguar f type 3.0 vy s irregular rattle
Hello guys,
I have a 2014 jaguar f type with 49000km. I notice when i start the car and put the car in D and my foot on the break there is a irregular rattle.
In the video is starts at arround 8 seconds.
I heard it could be the supercharger coupler but i expect the chain tensioner. I also removed the supercharger belt and the same noise in the video is there.
Can someone help me? Thanks in advance.
Greetings,

My engine sounds very much the same and has done for years. 2014 V6 S build date Oct 2014 MY 2015 now with 71,8xx km.
I had the supercharger coupler replaced under warranty around March 2017 and 30,000 km, per the official warranty fix of replacing the whole SC snout.
It has always rattled ever since and I have long suspected that the coupler has worn out again.
However you say the same rattle is present with the SC drive belt removed which rules that out for you!
Other suspects include:
- timing chain(s)
- chain tensioner(s)
- SC belt tensioner (although for me that was replaced again around March 2017)
- HP fuel pumps especially number 2
Of those my prime suspect for my car is the number 2 HP fuel pump.
If I were you I would start with the simplest/easiest/cheapest fix first and go from there, so start with the SC belt tensioner and if that doesn't fix the rattle try renewing the HP fuel pumps.
Please let us know how you get on as I am very interested!
Edit - another suspect I just thought of - the coolant pump.
A well known failure item on higher mileage AJ126 and AJ133 and I believe it rattles as it wears out.
So maybe scotch my number one suggested fix (the SC belt tensioner, if you still have the rattle with the belt removed it can't be that!) and replace it with replacing the coolant pump.

Thanks for you're reply. I used a stethoscope to listen to the engine, i dont hear ant strange noises except when i listen on top of the supercharger. There is where i can hear the irregular rattle. The rattle also goes away when the engine is warm, its just with a cold engine.
Can we Eliminate some of you're suspect that could be making this sound?

However it is possible that something else is the cause of the rattle and it's just that the noise is transmitted through to the top of the supercharger / coolant jackets.
Did you listen with the stethoscope with the SC belt connected or disconnected?
Regards cold engine vs warm engine the SC coupler rattle and timing chain rattle are usually both much more pronounced with a cold engine although they are still there with a warm engine just much reduced such that they could be overwhelmed by the normal injector ticking noise.
No noise / much less noise when warm would tend to rule out a rattling fuel pump.
I don't know if this helps, but after connecting the upper fuel line, I forgot to all torque down the retention bolts (T30 on my 2017 V6 3.0L) that run across the front of the blower. This caused a slight rattle where the clips were vibrating against the top of the blower. It sounded exactly like your sound file. It would even come and go like it was pulsing. Thought it was the SC at first. My bet is that you have something not quite tightened down.

Edit - I just went out to the car to check those bolts and lo and behold one of them (far left side of the engine) was barely even finger tight!
Tightened it up (Torx T30) and checked/tightened the others as well, started up the engine and let it run for a while, and it seemed to me to be a little less rattly than I remember, although that could be just a placebo effect.
