JLR IT Systems Hacked
My 3 month old 2024 F Type Dynamic R roadster has been at the dealership since 8/28 waiting for an ABS module. Maybe it’s in one of two containers arrived stateside last week, but the system is down, so dealer can’t see the manifest. I’m trying to keep in mind that it is a toy, my livelihood doesn’t depend on it, could be a lot worse. I do miss my cat.
With the experience I have had with dealerships over the years my F-type would NEVER be sitting there like that. I would take the extra expense around whatever logistics were required to avoid that. The chances of further problems is very high…Certainly with my track record in dealing with many dealerships across different brands over the years…
My son-in-laws 2020 F type needs a new differential at 30K miles. JLR can't get the parts due to the hack. Dealership said it would be 3-4 weeks at a min.
Thankfully, his car is sitting in his garage instead of the dealership. But he has to drive his wife's Nissan which is a bummer.
BTW, all the reading on this forum and never heard of a rear differential going bad at 3-4yr age and only 30K miles. At least JLR is replacing on warranty

The UK government just agreed to unlock up to £1.5 billion following the cyberattack to enable JLR to sustain its supply chain. The loan is to be paid back over 5 years. In addition to this loan, JLR has sought £2 billion in emergency funding from several global banks. Those are mind-boggling numbers.
For perspective, the typical cost of a data breach is only about £1.5 million (per IBM). Most of JLR's computer systems are managed by Tata Consultancy Services - who also provides services to Marks & Spencer and the Co-op, who were both hacked this year.
Meanwhile, JLR failed to finalize a cyber-insurance deal before the attack. Ouch.

This is still ongoing - My 2016 F-type R "might" still be under the 10 year extended warranty for the P0030 code it's throwing for an 02 Sensor. Dealer cannot confirm or deny that due to their IT systems being down, wanted me to pay $1200+ to have them do it and "see when the system comes back up if it was covered and if JLR will reimburse."
Ordered the Bosch sensor or $100 and I'll be putting it in next week instead. Hopefully it doesn't take more than that to clear the code.

<<TCS worked to integrate everything together making it basically impossible to start up one area (even one plant in one country) so this really is an all eggs in one basket scenario.>>
Regardless of whether TCS (Tata's IT subsidiary) is to blame for the hack vulnerability, it's TCS's interdependent linkage of all formerly discrete departmental data systems that has posed the big hurdle for business resumption, preventing simple phased restarts of individual functions, at least from what I've read.
This seems a good argument for maintaining redundant backup systems that retain autonomous divisional/departmental data silos (if that's even possible or practical, which I think it is, though IT is not my field).
