Default Keeping Active Exhaust Quiet in Higher RPMs

What's up everyone, my first post here! I have a 2015 R here, and man oh man, absolutely the best car I've owned and always puts a smile on my face! I love the bark from her in with the active exhaust opened up, but sometimes, I wouldn't mind being able to open her up without the amazing, but loud exhaust bellowing so I can hear more of the engine growl and supercharger whine. Has anyone found a way to keep the exhaust from automatically opening back up at higher RPM/Loads possibly? Not sure if its programmed to open or if it has to do with vacuum or something. Thanks in advance!

In later years, engine vacuum is switched to the valves to close them - they are normally held open by springs. Your 2015 (and my ‘14) has an electric vacuum pump that runs as needed to maintain a vacuum reservoir, which is switched by a solenoid to the exhaust valves.

This describes it.

Which doesn’t answer your question. I recall a few people have added a switch to supply power to the pump/solenoid to close the valves prior to the engine starting.

I remember seeing a post a while back discussing the potential for damaging the engine due to the increased back pressure created if the valves are not allowed to open at higher RPMs to allow the increase in exhaust gases to escape.

Yeah I had a feeling that was the case with this year as well and that's pretty much what I was going to start working on! Thank you!

I remember seeing that somewhere as well, but haven't been able to track it down. The thing with that though is everywhere else, it really seems purely for the sound and not performance related. I've had range rovers with the same engine and pipe diameters, with tunes on them, and have never had any issues. So I feel like its more of a speculation than anything else that it would cause damage. I appreciate that though, thanks!

That may have been my thread with VAP - I wanted to disable the automatic opening of the valves in quiet mode so I could run track events with noise restrictions.

I think they said it was possible but the whole damage your engine backpressure thing. Honestly... I have a hard time believing that, reduced power sure but damage?? I would think valves closed would flow well enough. Anyways I'm not going to win an argument with them about it.
