Nothing new in the powertrain, so It Is the same of the older MY. I dont thing It has Dynamic Launch
Agreed.
If the trans had been updated to the 8HP90 (supposedly to cope with launch control) surely it would have merited a mention in that media release?
Also I understand the 90 is a lot more expensive than the 70 so it would make no sense for JLR to spring for it just for launch control especially as the 70 is already rated for the max torque of the R.
Yeah, all of the bigger reviewers said it did not. The confusion came from comments on those video where people would contradict them and say that it did.
The SVR had it though, right? So it must be capable. They probably just didn't include the electronics around it or whatever...Perhaps cost cutting, covid logistics problem in terms of supply chain, etc?
F Pace SVR has It , but It uses the XE project 8 gearbox, not the standard one, and It is disabled in the first 3000 km, so I think It Is software controlled

The SVR does not have launch control. From what I recall, only certain V6s had launch control
Not that I truly care, but I was just wonder: Does the newly face-lifted F-type R have a launch control?
I have seen references in reviews saying it does not, and then some people in comments on those videos suggesting that it does.
What day you latest get R owners?!??!? ;-0
I have a 2021 R and YES, it has launch control. Jeez people, don't speculate unless you know what you're talking about. And yes, it works. I use it all the time.
I have that section in my MY18 handbook and no, mine doesn't have launch control - it wasn't firtted to any of the earlier V8s, so that's not speculation, it's fact. Why Jaguar have fitted it to the newer cars when it apparently couldn't work in the early ones is a mystery to me. I'm not sure of the benefits of launch control anyway, if I want a fast start I just floor it, the car seems to cope with it just fine.
Geez, no wonder I had the sense from YouTube that there was a lot of confusion around this…It being in the car’s manual but not being in all V8s etc…I’ll bet it’s not on some “pandemic cars” due to Covid chip constraints etc to make things more unclear ;-0…Wouldn’t surprise me…
Again, I was just curious. I wouldn’t be using it at all myself. I suspect that some might view it as a slightly “juvenile” feature (sorry Cgo, no offence) that gets old fast.
scm, it would and should be making a difference in regards to 0-60. As we know that is a game of 10ths. These launch controls optimize revs towards that end. It’s the whole point.
Thanks for help clearing things up a bit…I’ll check my order details list and see if there is anything there…Lots of stuff in there where I’m not even sure what it is…

My previous R and SVR were 2017 models so launch control was not available. After reading Cgo's most recent post, I went out and tested it with my 2021 R and I could NOT get the "dynamic launch ready" message to appear on the instrument panel. Cgo, what RPM's are you reaching as you lightly press the accelerator pedal to initiate the launch ready prompt on the dash and where is it located visually? Are you also also seeing the "launch active confirmation" message after you take off? I must be missing something obvious.

If this is true, there can be no other explanation besides the chip shortage issues causing these variations. Or maybe there could be different markets getting it or not getting it or something?
But what about '23? Due to the lack of Meridian Surround, I'd end up with a '23... if I can find one I can approve. On a semi-related note, I've heard a ton of videos on launches (upshifts sound awesome), but hardly anybody does downshifts, and the few I've heard, sounded really uninspiring (not aggressive at all). Cars like the Lexus LC500 and BMW M850i do awesome throttle-blip downshifts, and they both have a regular tranny, like the F-Type (not a DCT). In fact, the BMW probably has the same exact ZF tranny than the F-Type (the LC 500 has an Aisin). Curious how good it sounds, and how quick the downshifts are. Thanks gang.
The engine noise below 3000 rpm.can be instantly inoruved by removing fuse 15.
The vehicle appears to be launching properly when it comes to the rear end squatting and the rate of acceleration once I let off the brake and mash the pedal. However, I am not seeing any "launch ready" messages on the instrument panel during the process which has me a little perplexed.

Car handbooks often refer to several models so not everything that's described applies to all models. It's been long known that the V8s didn't have launch control (maybe to avoid overstressing the transmission?) but I'll wait to hear if Cgo has seen the "launch active" message or wether he's assuming it's there while he raises the revs and floors the throttle (standard way to get the V8 off the line!). Nothing to do with chip shortages, the feature was never available on early V9s (and, subject to confirmation, latest ones, too).
Hey gang, that 'launch' procedure does NOT sound like real launch control to me; just a regular brake-torque launch, which you can do on almost any other automatic car. True launch control allows FULL throttle before releasing the brakes; no wonder you can even do it in D. So I bet it probably has the same acceleration numbers than older cars without the dash lights stated above, and Jaguar just wanted to appease those who demanded launch control. The only way to add true launch control to the F-Type (especially the R/575 cars), would be with the beefier xxx90 ZF tranny, and of course Jaguar wasn't going to do that on the car's last year (or years). So whether you have the dash lights or not, it seems to just be a brake-torque launch, and a very mild at that (lightly applying throttle).
You guys might be correct and what I've been doing is no different than the normal brake/torque launch. Have not found a single video of an F-Type V8 actually using the "dynamic launch" feature so I'm not sure what Cgo has going on with his car but I cannot get any launch ready messages to appear on my instrument panel.
