Default Leasing a special order 2016?

Long time F-Type admirer and first time poster here with a question for you seasoned negotiators.

I'm very interested in leasing a 2016 F-Type base coupe within the next few months before the new MY comes out. Because none of the dealerships near me have any base models in stock (or anything remotely close to the configuration I want) I was considering seeing what they could do in terms of a special-order lease.

So my question is, with the new models coming soon, what kind of deal should I be looking for? The set-up I'd want comes out to roughly $73,000 after added options. I know the discounts may not be great as I'm not picking from their own stock, but I figured I could work some kind of a discount in. Any ideas/ballpark estimates as to what range I should be trying to go for (monthly payment/money down/etc...).

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Many dealers will give you as good a discount on the special order as they will on the inventory cars. At this time of year you should expect to get at least a 5% discount on a special order. The best negotiating tool is to get a buying service (like AAA's which is free to members) to secure internet sales quotes from 2 or 3 dealers in your area. You can use those discounts with the specified dealer or use the quotes to negotiate with another.

I saw another ad recently that talked of a $2,500 discount and I agree you should be able to get at least 5% off. Also having the dealer search may come up with what you want from somewhere else in the country and given that it's a 16 you may be able to get more off as a way to reduce inventory.

Worse comes to worse since you appear to be in central PA I can always send my wife to negotiate for you. She is a "killer" and I just sit stand back and watch her go in for the kill

Thanks for the advice, guys.

On a more specific note, assuming a 5-7% discount - which brings the cost of my custom build down to about un-optioned base coupe levels - would it be reasonable to expect monthly lease payments in the ballpark of $600? I ask because I've seen the ads on their website advertising $599/month for a stripped down base model, and was wondering if I could hope for anything close/better?

Probably not without some money out of pocket. I don't have current info for MF or residuals for a base but extrapolating out from the current offer on jaguarusa.com.

67,295 - msrp.
66,295 neg price
64% residual
10k miles/year
3501 cap cost reduction
i can back into the money factor being around 0.001825ish

applying that to your scenario.
$73k msrp
$66,850 neg price (5% off - $2500)

you're looking at 843/month after tax for PA (assuming you're in a township with 8% lease tax) with $0 out of pocket. every $1000 cap cost reduction will reduce your payment about $30/month.

The current Jaguar add for $2,500 off is just for Rs. Leased, or financed through Jaguar. The base is $1,000 off, leased or financed through Jaguar.

I was negotiating a lease on a special order V6 S MT with a sticker of $96k. I found a dealer thru the Costco program and I think it was about $1,000 over invoice. The deal never happened because I ended up buying a lo-mile demo from another dealership but I was expecting to pay around $1300 mo (including CA tax) for a 36 month 10K mile lease. I originally had my hopes up after seeing 2015s advertised for lease payments almost half of that but if you want to drive what you WANT, you gotta pay.

Thanks for the input.

I've contacted a number of dealers and most have been pretty poor in terms of getting back to me. The one that did quoted $800 over invoice- $2,200 due at signing with $944/month for 39 months at 10k miles/year. Even with the semi-reduced down payment that just sounds like a lot. Granted no negotiations have taken place so that number could come down, but I feel like it would be hard to get it down to the range I want/was expecting.

What are the terms on a special order like this? Do you have to put down 20% to place the order and pay the rest upon delivery?

Also, the MSRP for the 2017 Base will be reduced by $3600 bringing it to $62,395 (including the $995 destination charge) so with a 5% discount it takes it to $59,275. It may be worth waiting a few months and get a significant savings if you can live with the base model. Link: http://blog.caranddriver.com/for-rea...-gets-cheaper/

Based on the article:
To get there, Jaguar deleted the panoramic moonroof it just made standard for 2016 coupes, exchanged two 14-way power seats for one partially powered six-way driver’s seat, and removed all of the F-type’s considerable option packages save for the $600 Climate Pack, which warms the seats and steering wheel. This really is a base car.
To lose the panoramic roof is, in my opinion, a BIG mistake. Also, I would be curious to know what other "considerable options" were also removed. I have a feeling that once you add on things that have been taken away, the 2017 "base" will end up costing more than the 2016s.

The real question you need to ask is whether you truly want to buy the "base" that they've configured for 2017. If you could find a 2016 (and that's a big IF) that still works for your budget, I would suspect you might be just as happy.

I don't think you can "add on" options to the 2017 Base. I believe the paint colors are limited, and the only option is the Climate Pack. The next step up seems to be the "premium", which probably adds back in all the things taken away.

This.

No wheel or seat choice either.

Most dealers will take just $1000 down as earnest money on a special order. You need to come up with the balance at time of delivery in the form of cash, debt financing or lease financing. In most states, if you choose not to take delivery for whatever reason, the dealer is obligated to return your deposit.
