Default Looking for new tires

Hello all, I recently purchased a 2015 F-Type V8 S convertible with 12,000 miles on it. It currently has Pirelli tires and the tread wearable tread is down to the minimum already, so I'm looking for a new set of 4. The dealerships around here recommend Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. I'm looking for your advice and experience on tires. I don't race the car, but do enjoy pushing the limits on the hairpin country roads in the East TN area. Maybe tires that'll last more than 12,000 miles. Thanks!

The Michelin Pilot Sport 4S is certainly an upgrade from the PZero. They seem to transform the car. No more unstable rear feeling at speeds. I've had 4 different PZero's pick up nails/bolts/screws with my two F Types. None from the Michelin. I've driven from Upstate NY to Chicago and back 3 times with the Michelin's never had a single issue. Also they lasted around 18,000 miles. Pirelli you can't seem to get much more than 7500 before lots of tread wear and road noise.

The search function will provide you with a number of threads where this topic is heavily discussed. The cut to the chase version is that for a summer performance tire the Michelin 4S tires and superior with the new Continental summer tires promising but relatively new in the Ftype sizes. For all season tires the Continentals seem to be widely praised.

I am on Michelins for the last 3 years after two sets of crappy PZeros which became downright scary after only 10k miles. The MP4S’ have been just outstanding and I’ve put almost 23k miles on them. Also I don’t drive like grandma either.

I went with the Bridgestone Potenzas. They are a big step up from the P-Zeros and should have a good lifespan. I only have about 4,000 miles on them now, so can't speak to that.

Check out Tire Rack's "Tests Reports on 2021 Max Performance Summer Tires. I wonder if Pirelli has put out a new model of the P Zero (PZ4) tire? The P Zero actually took 1st place over all but the Michelin PS4S was a little better in the dry? The test also included the Bridgestone Potenza and Continental Extreme Contact. I will go with the PS4S when I need new tires just for the long track record at the top and I have them on my BMW M Roadster and love them on it.

Overwhelmingly, the folks on the forum go with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. You'll notice the difference by the time you pull out of the lot. Costco (if available in your location), or Tire Rack. You can ask your dealer if they will match prices.

The PZ4 is not what comes on the Jag. The P Zero’s that come on the jag are just awful. Either way, you have better choices. We run the PS 4S’s in the summer and another set of wheels/tires (Potenza’s) in the colder months. While the PS 4S’s have been fun to play with, I can’t wait to swap back to my Potenza’s. About 80% of the performance but much quieter and about 100% more comfortable to drive.

Another vote for the MPS4S, infinitely better than the crap OEM P-Zeros.

I'm wondering if the P Zeros that came with my car are worth anything to anybody. Only 6.500 easy miles on them, prior owner did not push them and I've added mostly highway miles, so lots of tread. I imagine no one here wants them, just asking for ideas about how/where I might be able to sell them and what a fair price might be.
I'll probably list on Craigslist in San Diego and LA unless someone has a better idea.

On the one hand, yup. Tires and Stop/Start defeat ought to be stickies.

On the other hand, I’m glad this forum hasn’t adopted “stfaq”. Always seemed arrogant when that was the typical response on Audiworld. Especially when the search of the frequency asked usually never resulted in an acceptable answer.

One person's trash is another person's treasure. Just put them up on your local Craigslist. They will likely sell if you put them up for cheap. If you dispose of them through a tire shop, you typically have to pay about $10 or so per tire. If you sell them for $200, you are ahead of the game. Just don't try to get greedy.

I would burn them out for fun. That means burnout, not set them on fire, tho

i've spent some time looking at MB and BMW boards before and I will say that the most common response over there seems to be "try looking at old threads you idiot". This board is much, much better (because Jaguar owners are just better people than MB or BMW owners obviously.)

Rear RE980 AS’s wore out after two winters, prolly 10,000 miles. Not the inner edges, the center is down to the wear bars. Fronts are doing great, probably have another couple of winters on those.

Decided to grab some new rears, the new RE980 AS Plus’s. Figured I could scrub them up a bit before swapping over to the summer wheels with their 4S’s.

Tires worn in the center indicate high tire pressure. Think of a tire as a balloon, puffing outward in the center when overinflated such that only the center of the tire wears.
