Default Lost Keys

Long story that I will spare you the details, but it comes down to the fact that both of my original key fobs are missing for my 2015 R.

I called the dealer who told me it will cost ~$500 to "program" a new key fob. That's the good news. The bad news according to the dealer is that when both fobs are lost and a new key is programmed, the car "thinks" it is being stolen and so there are several sensors in the car that will shut down permanently. Parts and labor to replace those sensors will run $5k-$6K.

Does anyone have experience with both keys gone missing?

Thanks

It’s been discussed here before. If you have zero key fobs, my memory is that one of the modules (remote entry?) has to be replaced. NOT $5-6k, but maybe $1k?

It depends on the situation. If the keys are lost and the car is unlocked then the below applies. If the car is locked you might need to purchase a new/used BCM too. Still, none of which comes close to those figures.

Here are the two best scenarios for you out of the many that I can think of:

#1 - A JLR Specialist:

1) The specialist (or you) orders a new KVM from dealers OR the specialist virginizes the existing KVM
2) The specialist uses SDD to program the new module and then program two keys (each roughly £50 used on eBay)
3) Job done. The two lost keys cannot be used to open/start the car and you have two keys for the car.

#2 - An Auto Locksmith:

1) Locksmith removes KVM
2) Locksmith uses his/her preferred tool to disable existing (lost) two keys and add two new keys
3) Job done

In the UK these two options would cost you less than £500.

Thank you very much for your response DJS! I did do a search before posting but did not find what you mentioned. Greatly appreciated!

That's great news MoJo88! The dealer told me "keep looking for your keys or $5-$6k " Thank you for your help!
