Default Lotus Emira

Hi Guys,

I got to experience the Evora GT last week and it's quite the car. Not as powerful as the F-Type but a more engaging, visceral driving experience. I didn't think there was a better V6 exhaust note on the market (than the F-Type) but I stand corrected.

Had me wondering if any F-Type owners are considering the new Emira

I fully endorse the notion of replacing one's wife with an Emira.

The Evora S was in my lineup of possible cars when I purchased my F Type. I was in the used car market so new wasn't an option and with the Jag as much as they depreciate I wouldn't buy new. I couldn't find an Evora near me and then looked for a local dealer to service it and couldn't find one of those either so I passed. I am sure there must be an indy shop locally that could service one but went with the Jaguar. The Emira has been getting some great reviews from what I have seen. I would love to drive one at least and am still on the hunt to add a 6 banger to the garage. I love the R but miss the nimbleness of my Porsche 911. I imagine it was a blast to drive.

I contacted my local franchise last year and inquired about the necessary deposit and wait times. They responded saying they had “allocation” but no additional details but asked when I would like to schedule an appointment - presumably to take a deposit and look at a bunch of cars that I wasnt interested in. Car looks amazing and I would still like to check one out and perhaps add it to the stable.

This would be the alternative I’d be looking at.

Both the Emira and AMG are logical alternatives to the F-Type. Try,before you buy. But, you can't do that for another year or so with the Emira.

Not sure my wife would be pleased to be replaced by a Lotus....Surprisingly the maintenance costs of the Lotus would much lower than my wife.

I did inquire with my local dealer last fall about a test drive. He said that his first car would be in June and already had 46 deposits so probably sold out for the first few years.

I've had a deposit in with Gator in Indiana since mid July. Lotus continues to delay the FE cars. US deliveries aren't supposed to arrive until October. That's If they don't delay it any further. I'm hearing people who are putting deposits down now are looking at a 2024 car.

Did you drive the manual? I would be tempted by the manual 6, not an auto as pretty much been there done that with the F Type

I drove the auto, It still felt different enough. My take away from it was the F-Type felt a lot more like a GT than a sports cars.

Can’t go wrong with the new SL if you’re looking for a convertible GT. Price indications are rather high though with most rumours pointing to a starting price between $150,000 and $180,000. Very rich in my opinion.

the evora was in my final 3 when i bought my '18 R. it's a different experience but still pretty great. it'd be tougher to DD than the jaguar, and you really need to live close to a dealer. their dealer network is ****. i love the looks of the emira and have spent a bunch of time on the lotus message board. the problem is that the emira is pretty much a warmed-over evora but is somehow slower.

I checked out insurance and was told it was not set yet but the Evora was pretty high (a lot higher than the F type....like 180%).

The new car is amazing looking on the website. The Evora looks a lot better in person than in photos to me...this car looks a lot better than the Evora imho.

Frankly it looks like the car Ferrari meant to build but forgot how to do so....

To my ears the sound is similar but I'll hold off as sound is a "you need to be there in person" kind of thing.

No dealers is a problem on any DD car....big one. They should make a deal with JLR to do service, etc.

What it does do - make me wish the F-type weighted 500 lbs less.

My buddy has one on order that I think he said he's supposed to get late Q1 or early Q2 2nd half of this year. Our plan is to swap cars and go for a drive. I'll have to remember to post back after I get a chance to drive it.

My mistake. I just texted him and he said that they didn't give him a date for the US model yet He said they are hoping Q3 like you said, but wouldn't make any promises. I must have misunderstood him at the time. We were a few beers deep so that might have been it.

I had an Evora and it was a fantastic driving experience. I sold it for a porsche 987.2 Spyder. Both fantastic. My wife and I like to GT and take trips so I went to the F-Type R. I had an early production Evora and it has MANY problems. My dealer was fantastic and took the car in quickly and repaired. These are pleasure cars. Specifically it leaked everywhere. Various Leather issues. And worse was a poorly engineered throw-out bearing that required a new clutch art 8K miles. The entire car comes apart from the rear bulkhead back. Scary. All these issues were worked out in the next year or two. I am likely getting the new one after they have made a few thousand.
