mercedes amg gt
What are your thoughts about the mercedes amg gt? First time I saw it on tv I was regretting my F Type purchase. But then I got a better look at it online and actually like the F Type exterior better.
I think the car is good looking and the regular GT will be relatively reasonable, the options can kill that. As a former AMG owner I prefer my F Type S driving experience better. They are really German muscle cars, no finess. But you will win the stop light drags against everything except a Viper.
In the absence of the F-Type, worth a look, but lacks the beauty. Also, out of my price league and no MT available (I know... personal problem).

And I agree with you on the appearance. The F-Type looks better because the design is more modern and it flows better. The AMG GT to me seems a bit like it was designed by a KIA-style thinker - they wanted a rear-end that looks like a Porsche, and a front end that looks like an SLS, and so you have a design which lacks harmony.

Will reserve final judgement until I see it in person. But initial looks of the rear is not great. I do think it'll performance better than the F-Type, MB AMG just has more resources to develop a car. The one thing that will probably keep me away is I like uniqueness and I see MB everywhere and feel like the AMG GT will be like the SL where it'll be just "another" MB. The SLS is different because it had gullwings! I'd probably get a used SLS over a new AMG GT.
At the price, it ought to.
+1. Becomes more tolerable every time I see it.
But against which 911? It has to be compared to the Turbo I think.
It was the GTS, the most driver-focused 911 other than the GT3/GT3 RS etc. I think they compared the right car. The prices were broadly comparable (albeit based on UK pricing).
GTS is going to lose because of its 430hp naturally aspirated engine. However Porsche is also moving to turbos across the entire 911 line (except the GT3 and RS) so they compared to the old GTS (the turbo GTS will be out later this year).
I saw the Mercedes at the L.A. Auto Show a couple of months ago. I happened to approach the car from the rear and was sure it was a new version Porsche 911. Then I walked around the side to the front where it looked like an SL550 grafted onto the Porsche's ***. I'm not a fan of its looks, too derivative of other cars.
As for the SLS, it may challenge the Panamera as one of the ugliest designs ever right alongside the Alfa Milano and the Plymouth Valiant.

The club has an SLS and I had it for a couple of days. I got over the gull wings after nearly knocking myself out on one, and this was after I figured I knew better. The car is like driving in a tank, sounds great outside but kind of like a tomb inside. Power comes on really late so it is kind of disappointing until the peddle gets almost to the floor then god speaks and the angles sing while a donkey kicks you in the ***. Very stable, bitch to park, the long nose is a true pain and I'm not that short. I actually had to buy a special cable to get my tunes in the car and the sound system isn't bad, just not spectacular. I think this car would shine on the autobahn at speed and distance. Were I to buy one I'd get the convertible, as short people can't close the damn gull wing doors and tall people will knock themselves out on them, and with the top down I could hear the glorious engine.
