Talking Mounted a Fire Extinguisher in the F-Type

Finally put an extinguisher in the Jag. Always have one in my cars, hoping I will never need it -

I don't like warning stickers, so I pulled off the original and replaced it with a wheel center emblem I had

Certainly a better location than under the passenger seat.

Mine is a little smaller than that, but is using the OEM accessory bracket that mounts on the forward edge of the driver's seat base. I want to get a slightly larger extinguisher and flip the lever around so it pulls up instead of pushes down to release, but the location is handier than the passenger side or the cargo area.

Yeah, I'd have thought that to be really useful the extinguisher should be close at hand. That said, the F-Type is no Ferrari, so such things shouldn't be necessary.

I wanted to mount it in the interior, under the seat or nearby, but the F-Type is pretty tight inside. This fits well in the boot without impeding storage, and I will likely only use it on someone else's car, not the Jag.
Still, I like having one nearby.

I mounted a large 2L Foam bad boy in mine about 4 years ago.

From experience I won't have an extinguisher more than an arms length away!

Plus, the boot space is taken up with my first aid kit and Jaguar brolly!

How did you mount this. I have a rennline quick release and such left over from my prior car and want to put it into the F type now....tope of the line unit with four holes....standard stuff.
Simply have not been able to find the JLR mount part.....or kit....the bracketeer will work but is not as good a solution as the seat middle seems pretty anterior making that thing a very tight fit.

Thanks in advance. I love your posts.

The last thing I would do is open the trunk or hood to extinguish a fire, thereby letting in more air, especially if the fire extinguisher is in the trunk.
Plus that little extinguisher likely will not help much.
I would however keep a much larger extinguisher in my garage.
Otherwise just get as far away from the car as you can and call the fire department.

The Jaguar kit is T2R10328. It's for multiple models from 2006-on, so has two different brackets, hardware, and an extinguisher. The sheet that came with it does not have part numbers for the individual components in the kit.

Info I found on this, says it's mounted to drivers seat. Is that accurate?

That's where mine is, but I don't see why it couldn't be mounted to either. Since I'm generally solo in the car, ease of access for me seemed paramount.

I have mine mounted under the driver seat and I don't seem to have any issues getting in and out (I'm pretty careful) but when I take my car into the shop, I usually get it back slightly loosened. if you're not careful and inadvertently kick the extinguisher, it will loosen. Luckily, the car doesn't go into the shop very often (knock on wood) but even if it does get loosened, it's considerably easier to tighten it than the original process for mounting it.

I've had to use my car extinguisher once because there was a fire on the side of road in an area of dead grass. It does come in handy and I recommend everyone to have one in their car, along with a first aid kit, and the warning triangle.

I had to mount an extinguisher in the cockpit for a race/rally event I did. I cut a piece of 3/32nds aluminum with "arms" that slipped into the seat rails and holes in the arms so that it was held down with the two front Torx seat mount bolts. Then I bolted the fire bottle bracket to that. Cheap and solid, but not an everyday solution as the bottle does not move with the seat, so a really short driver could move the seat forward enough to push the seat into the bracket, which would probably scratch something. Since it goes in and out in 5 minutes I'll use this on track days and such, but not for daily driving.

I mounted mine under and just in front of the passenger seat. All of my cars have an extinguisher and always in the cabin. If I need to get to it or get hit from the rear I may not be able to quickly get to it if it's in the boot. Anyway, it's an easy install and while it may limit the seat moving forward fully why would you need to move the seat forward?

Is anyone using the Element Fire Extinguisher? I have seen it mentioned in old threads and surprised it wasn't brought up in this discussion. I was leaning toward getting several of these for vehicles and kitchens. Looks to be much easier to keep in small space, marketing indicates it has longer "spray" ability, less mess and it never needs recharged. Wondering if anyone has first hand knowledge.

A friend of mine used one successfully on an underhood fire, don't know the cause. I have one in my racecar as an alternative to triggering the fire suppression system for a small fire but have never needed to use it. And I have one in the F.

Yes, it’s been discussed here. I’ve been planning to get one at some point.

I switched to an element unit from my old 2.5 unit....the element is lighter and in theory works better....win win.... Not perfect as it is a two step to get going...but it is pretty simple. It also makes no noise...the older unit lock pin rattled....
