Default Mustang

New mustang reminds me a bit of new 300Z. Design trend?

Gotta say I dont see the commonality just yet, but then I own a mustang and maybe it looks more distinctive to me.

I reckon the new Mustang looks more like a Camaro than it did before, I quite like it apart from the interior and in particular the screens which I dont think suit a sports car or a car that trades on heritage. The rear might look a bit korean inspired, but at least they gave it some thought. The rear deck on the current one looks like they only had 50 cents left in the parts budget.

I wish I could say the same. I've always wanted a 5.0 and had high hopes for this gen. I think that it resembles the current-gen Camaro a lot with its wide rear haunches, rear fenders, and door grooves. I immediately disliked the rear lights as I favor the current gen's design. The whole axe-smashed look isn't my cup of tea. While it looks like they tried to improve the interior somewhat (material quality), the door panels, center armrest, manual shifter, and cupholders all look identical to the outgoing model. I think it was poor judgment to get rid of switches and replace them with haptic buttons in the center. Haptics belong on screens, and if you're already placing a panel, clickable buttons make more sense to me. The newly designed screens, while having smooth animations make the cockpit look like a gamer's dream setup with dual monitors. It just looks like you're playing a video game to me. I like that they added the B&O sound system (especially since I am not a fan of my Meridian surround).

I applaud Ford for keeping the V8 alive as well as offering a manual tranny (and a great one at that since Tremec gets nothing but rave reviews), but the looks took a major step back for me, enough to cross it off my list of possibilities. If anything, it made me want to consider a GT350 in the future.

But hey, to each their own, right?

They do get major props for their Dark Horse (great name!) promo video:

I seem to be the only one who sees a strong similarity between the F-Type and the new Z. Side view - a lot. Rear view, no.

Maybe it would help your cause if you called the new Z what it really is. It is not a 300Z (no such thing) and that's confusing.

Never a fan, but the latest doesn’t look bad. I watched the Ford promo video and the guys “targeting” 500 hp was made to seem like a huge deal, but it’s not. You all should see the challenger forums - dudes are apoplectic about the final dodge offerings and the move to EV - mustang looks to be the last ICE pony car and the dodge boys are not taking it well. Much anger….

haha. You know, I did think of the new Z when i first saw the Mustang unveiling in the interior update. Both the Mustang and the Z basically did the same thing inside. Mostly the same thing with new screens being the biggest change.

They will always be numbered Z's to me as I had a bunch starting with a '70 240 as a college graduation present to myself. Started me down the rabbit hole of getting something and then figuring out if I could actually pay for it, at least when i was young.

Overall like the look, I think the stylists managed an evolutionary change well in general, but think that huge cockpit screen is an abomination, and could do without the undercut rear. One purchases a Mustang to enjoy driving, not be distracted by tictok. PS, we own more Mustangs than Jags.

I have to question the promotional music. Who are they targeting?

I saw a short video on it last night. Two things stood out to me as jokes: The cockpit, which is designed to appeal to someone who plays way too many video games, and while not demonstrated, the reviewer said that you could rev the engine with a button on the key fob. Are you kidding me ? It's like they designed the car for a 12 year old.

The overall styling wasn't particularly interesting either.

How are they getting over 500 hp from a 5.0 and it’s NATURALLY ASPIRATED ???😱🎃

Jaguar could only get 600 PS from the factory for the $180k project 8!

The coupe roof line is what reminds me of the Z. The vert reminds me of a Maserati GTS.

RIght? Just like cars with obnoxiously loud exhausts enhanced by software tricks.

Wait a minute...

You know - I watched the reveal, and was like 'It's ok, I think it will grow on me'. Then I saw the Dark Horse (I'm sorry, what an overdramatic/emo name) and was like hmmm now we're talking. Then I went to the garage to see my F-Type and was like 'oh right, this is what a beautiful car really looks like... carry on.'
