Default My car may be the fastest order-to-delivery in US - well ahead of schedule

Great news on my order. When I placed the order on October 17th, they estimated delivery at December 19th. Current projections suggest it will be about 6 weeks from order-to-delivery on a build-to-order spec.

Confirmed by JLR and my dealer:
Order placed: October 17th
Order spec finalized: October 20th
Build completed: November 6th
Received at Port of Exit: November 11th
Booked on Elektra: November 11th

According to Wallenius Wilhelmsen:
Booked: November 11th
Estimated day of departure: November 12th
Estimated arrival at Brunswick at GA: November 24th

12 days looks to be a fairly relaxed crossing, unless it's stopping off somewhere else.

The number of F-Types being built must have gone up with the last of the XKs.

It was 3 months from order to delivery for mine, and I live less than 2 hours drive from the factory...

I think in my case what also made it short was that my dealer had an allocation which was unsold and I happened to go in for a test drive just a week before the build went final. So this car would have been dealer inventory but my order was just timed right to intercept it and turn it into a customer build. That combined with the fact that Jaguar put the car into production one week ahead of schedule.

Ouch! That's crazy!!!
Your car hasn't left port yet and it will be in Brunswick on 11/24...
My car is on the Pacific side of the Panama Canal, sailing along the coast of Costa Rica today, and my delivery date from the dealer - which was just moved forward - is 11/27. Since that is thanksgiving weekend, we might take delivery of our cars about the same day.

Sometimes they stop off in Halifax for us Canadians.

I have you beat by 3 days from order to UK departure.
But I'm on the US West coast so order to delivery was longer for me.

Same order situation... I found a dealer with an existing firm production slot they were able to modify just before the cutoff.

Uh oh. I have a feeling my car didn't get loaded onto the boat. I hope there isn't a problem with the car.

Status is "RETURNED TO SHIPPER"

Has anyone seen this status before on the Wallenius Wilhelmsen website?

Now I'm wondering if the boat was just full or the car was damaged.

I haven't seen that code before but i've had numerous cars delivered by WW and have gone through the obsessive tracking process a few times and also read and watched some documentaries on how that company works.
They do quite rigorous pre-shipment inspection because they are liable for on-water damage. There are a number of reasons cars might be returned to shippers:

1. Car failed pre-shipment inspection (quality issue, transit damage, tow hook and strapdown points not working, etc)
2. Car got damaged while loading. The vehicles are loaded literally inches apart, and strapped down hard so they don't move in rough seas. They do get damaged sometimes in the loading process.
3. Paperwork not filed right.

I haven't heard of the "shipment being full" as a reason. The shipment slots are really well planned and mostly automated, so I wouldn't think it very common to have a ship be full and the car get returned.

You should have a VIN number for the car since it's been produced. I would suggest calling Jaguar North America and asking them to look into it using the VIN.

Good luck!

I think it could be any of the reasons you describe, plus overbooking. It was only booked the day before departure so it's possible the paperwork was not in order, or the boat was overbooked and I got low priority due to the late booking.

My dealer is looking into it tomorrow.

From Googling online some guys on the mini forum said they saw this code sometimes and it turned out the vessel was overbooked and the car was placed on the next vessel.

For me the next vessel would be the Honor which leaves on the 16th and arrives Dec 1st.

I hope overbooking was the reason, but sorry for your delay.

I hope it is just a computer error and it’s on the boat. I’m anxious to see photos of your car because you built it the same way I would if I were ordering an R coupe.

I've never ordered a car. Guess i have been lucky finding something I wanted. Once I get the urge it is just a matter finding some thing I want, seems every 2 years or so. I get nervous waiting 2 weeks to go and get an out of state purchase, afraid trade will get hit or self destroy!

Sorry to hear about the delay StealthPilot.

Good things come to those who wait...painful as it is [to wait].

Spoke with W&W and they say they didn't bump the car, but Jaguar asked for the car to be held at port.

Meanwhile dealer doesn't know why this happened but Jaguar has moved up the estimated delivery date from 12/19 to 12/12.

I was thinking the same thing! I've bought a lot of ordered cars, and never seen this "returned to shipper" status before.

Yes still ahead of schedule.
