Default My estrogen levels must be elevated from too much tofu

Received my VAP tune from Stuart, had some time on my hands and was going to start the process of installing, when doubt crept into my brain....

My 2015 R still has almost a year of warranty left, wondering if I should wait til the warranty has expired?

I haven't bought a tune, but I've thought about it extensively. 100 hp for $1k is a deal. That said, I've got a couple years of warranty left that I don't want to void. Not that a tune would cause a problem, but if something else killed the drivetrain...

I've had the lower pulley for a month now waiting to install, but my warranty expires in a month's time so I will wait until then before I get it installed.
Not because I think the pulley/tune will cause any problems, but because if something "big" goes wrong while the car is still under warranty I don't want to risk having the warranty claim rejected because of the obviously larger pulley.

Yep, with the occasional reports of rear diff's blowing up and/or engines with oil starvation problems, don't want to lose coverage for such issues due to having the tune. I've tuned many other cars and never had a problem, perhaps it is that lingering impression of Jag's having a less than stellar reliability reputation in the past. Mine has been trouble free so far....

To each her own. Myself, I did the pulleys and tune with 4.5 years left under warranty. At my age, I'm more likely to suck a valve and tear up a joint than a tuned Jag. No sense waiting to find out for certain.

So are we saying there is a direct correlation between tofu, tunes, and warranties?

I have it on good authority that eating Tofu alone will void your warranty unless your driving a Prius.

Definately a link. I blame last nights Pho soup with tofu for my complete lack of testosterone prohibiting me from increasing the power of my R, AND voiding drivetrain warranty...

if you cant afford to replace **** that breaks, don't play with mods. simple as that.

Me? I tune and modify every car within the first few months. Part of the joys of being an actual car guy.

I guess it comes down to risk assessment. Do you voluntarily jump out of a plane with a parachute on for "fun" if the plane isn't actually going to crash ? You could void your body's warranty.

I don't think I could wait it out until my warranty expired but I believe my engine had sufficient run time on it to have minimised the risk of a manufacturing defect. Would I have put a tune on within days or weeks of taking delivery brand new ? No. But after a year and 8000 miles on the clock, I feel more comfortable. In my case I know JLR have variants of BHP output from the same hardware so again, added padding in the comfort department.

As the man said earlier, if you have no stomach for risk at all then don't do it. But I'm glad I did.

And as for tofu well....

+1. My local tuner strongly advised that I wait until the 5-6000 mile mark before tuning. He had observed that most of the engine failures he had witnessed, whether they had been tuned or not, occurred in the first 5000 miles.

Caution is certainly justified, considering a number of blown engines we heard about. At the very least I would do an oil analysis prior to tuning.

Well how big is "a number of". Fingers of one hand or less based on my memory. True some of those didn't have a tune and I don't recall a V6 being one of the reported casualties yet. Of course that data may be skewed for a number of reasons. But I think "the sky will fall if you tune" may be a little paranoid.

But +1 on considered caution.

And to keep it on topic, I only ate a piece of tofu once accidentally mistaking it for a chunk of mushroom. Fixed that.

So guys that don't tune are not car guys?

Guys that don't have a lot of money are not car guys?

Guys who are prudent and do not want to risk blowing the warranty are not car guys?

Am I a car guy?
I’m 69.
I got my first car when I was 17.
6 British, 3 French cars, a German car and 2 Italian cars.
#1 Austin A35 Van....948cc not much horsepower but it was great to take a very randy girl to a quiet spot.
#2 MG TC 1938 I think. It was a wreck but I had it at University until the money ran out. Sold it in 1969 for £100....should have kept it.
#3 Citroen 2CV van, with corrugated sides. 402 cc air cooled Boxster engine great fun until it was demolished by a BMW.
#4 E-Type 3.8 Coupé another wreck bought for £400 in 1974 and sold for £400 in 1975....definitely should have kept it.
#5 VW Beetle 1200 cc. Very reliable and well made.
#6 Lancia Beta Coupé Total rust bucket but great to drive.
#7 Citroen Dyane 605cc air cooled Boxster this time, like the 2CV was great fun.
#8 Fiat Panda. I know move along.
#9 Citroen CX Fully hydraulic everything. You could raise and lower the ride height and the brake pedal had zero travel.
#10 Jaguar V12 XJS loved it.
#11 Jeep Cherokee
#12 Jeep Cherokee, must have liked the previous one. I did, great vehicles.
#13 BMW 3.0 Z3 auto. This was great fun but I got fed up of limited boot space and didn’t need a convertible so I traded it in for something more practical.....
#14 Jaguar X100 XKR. I absolutely adored it, loved the styling, loved the power.
Then along came ...
#15 F-Type 3.0V6 AWD. It will probably see me out.

If I’d wanted more power I’d have got the V8. Even more, then the SVR but car guy or not I love my V6.

2 Jeep Cherokees? You are definitely disqualified as a car guy!

Not having the money to replace something that breaks, and not wanting to spend money on something that breaks that may have been fixed for free are two mutually exclusive things and completely unrelated to your ridiculous comment of being an "actual car guy"

Fair to assume that most F Type owners are F Type owners in the first place because of not spending money they otherwise wouldn't have to
