2017 CPO convertible with about 10k miles on the clock. Seen here:
Having never been in one of these or any Jag whatsoever but knowing the F-Type by reputation I was honestly expecting it to be more raw and intimidating than it actually was. It was actually refined, stable, composed and very easy to drive fast. Of course it makes a great noise and it looks absolutely beautiful but it was the driving experience that most surprised me.
I come from a background of a 987 Boxster and now an NC Miata. Both of those cars have much more wind noise, more road noise and much busier rides with more road feel than the F-Type. The F-Type, despite its brutish reputation, actually polishes and refines some of those rough edges that roadsters are traditionally known for. It was, dare I say it, a touch luxurious? As well as being fast and dramatic, which is always a good thing in a sports car!
I enjoyed my time in it even though the test drive route was short. I really need more seat time (and oh, about those seats, they were great and very comfortable!) and preferably some time in an R Coupe before I can really get a sense of the big cat. But, first impressions are very positive and have definitely increased my interest in possible ownership.
Honestly I'm not that interested in the convertible I just test drove that vehicle because it was the only R they had. If I buy, it will definitely be a coupe. The F-Type lives up to the hype in terms of soundtrack and muscle but, as I said earlier, it surprised me with its refinement and manners. Is it fair to call it a gentleman thug?
Just picked up my new R model coupe a few months ago. Not quite as quick as my ‘013 GTR was, but a much prettier car and much better made than the Nissan. Getting Ceramic Pro treated this week.
It is that, isn't it? I think it's one of the best looking cars on the road. I can't wait to try out an R coupe and take it on a longer drive.
We had been planning on buying a vert and were similarly impressed after our first test drive in one. The ease of putting the top up and down is amazingly good compared to prior vert's I've owned. Both are amazing vehicles, the coupe is going to be a bit stiffer but that is only noticeable when pushed harder than anyone is going to do on a test drive unless that test drive is executed on the Nurbugring. Naturally the solid top will also be quieter than the version with the floppy top but you will still hear road noise from the tires and the wonderful exhaust note so it's still visceral.
