Default My new 2016 AWD S

I picked up my 2016 F-Type AWD S today replacing my 2010 Audi S4. I got it with the Premium + Vision Pack. AWD was an easy choice for me since I was so used to the Audi and really like the confidence during winters here in the northeast.

The new InControl Remote is great. It was the first one equipped at the dealership this way and they were definitely excited to see it work for the first time on this 2016 model. Nothing like getting into a nicely air conditioned car on a hot day.

I must admit that the 770w Meridian System is underwhelming, but I expected that based on the threads here. I removed the child latch cover which reduced the vibration from the passenger side and tweaked the settings, but it's still muddy. No big deal since the active exhaust switch cures everything.

Compared to the S4 and my wife's 2014 Q7, I'd say that the speed of interface is very similar and not too laggy at all.

For anyone with kids, the passenger seat works well. The passenger airbag sensor works well and the airbag remains off for my kids' Recaro Seat. It'sLATCH system, but the 3-point belt works well thanks to the ratcheting system. It's also nice having the vertical tether strap to further secure the seat.

Anyway, here are pics of the new ride.

Thanks! Yeah, we realized that we always used my wife's Q7 when hauling both our kids around. I only drive my older daughter by herself to and from school on my way to and from work. Otherwise, the car is for date nights with the wife and my daughter's Recaro comes out.

Cruising around in a new F-Type you're going to get more opportunities for dates.... (Better be careful, the wife not like that...)

Does anyone have close up photos of the skirts? I've never seen a '16 on the lot because my dealer can't keep them around. I would like to see the detail on where the pieces separate (for the purpose of ordering them painted black from the factory, or consideration of a vinyl wrap).

Any bit of rain and the white side skirt shelf looks horrid w mud. I'll be vinyling them as soon as I can bear to part with the car for a few hours.

Yeah, the skirts a bit large, but they've grown on me (pun intended). I like em.

Nati-- I'll take a closeup picture when I get the chance. One thing you'll notice is that the skirt has a thicker raised portion just forward of the rear wheel arch.

Plmmd-- Yeah, the skirts already got some brake dust on them just driving home from the dealer.

You can't order them black from the factory, they come unpainted.

I don't understand. Clearly they are painted body color by default. Do you mean the only other option is to have them delivered unpainted, and then it's up to the buyer and dealer to figure something out?

It means they come the same color you ordered the car in. You can't order them mounted to the car unpainted or painted a different color and, you can't order them left off the car entirely. You have to have them repainted (or removed would be my choice) after you've taken delivery of the car.

What he meant is if you order replacement sills for whatever reason, they they come unpainted.

Thanks for the clarification. I never considered the option of having them removed entirely. Can you point to any photos of what that looks like?

I would probably just either plasti-dip it or vinyl wrap it...can be done for a couple of hundred dollars...takes an hour. If all you want is to make them black, probably much easier than painting and/or ordering the 15 stills.

Any picture of a '14 or '15 model car without the Exterior Design Pack will not have the side skirts.

edit - Here's a picture of mine for reference.
