Default New F-Type "Chequered Flag" model

See here: https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/n...lebrates-brand
Looks like a rebadged R-Dynamic (V6 or I4 only) with a bit of interior trim tizzying up, so nothing special.

Another fine example of the automotive media: Not knowing the difference between the F-Type R and the R Dynamic.
The F-Type really doesn't deserve a "Checkered Edition" until it wins a recognized race. My 2 cents, and worth even less.

I think your thoughts are way to deep for the principle of 'badging' a car.. ..its a marketing gig, no more, no less.

There are always people who want to have a 'unique model' . When I was a youngster [1970-ties ], it was the golden era of the 'carshop' ,
stores were you could buy stickers and screw-on spoilers and so on. It was high fashion then ; people wanted to be 'unique'...

I wouldn't have checker flagged either of these cars. Maybe the SVR or a special high performance model.

I must agree with Uninged, a Chequered Flag edition is celebratory for a Motosport achievement. It's obviously a cheap marketing trick to provide a "limited edition" option for those that believe either in the collectability (good luck with that) or the exclusivity... if so, do it off the SVR please

A Chequered Flag LeMans win edition would make sense...

"Chequered Flag edition is celebratory for a Motosport achievement."
Is that anything like a participation trophy? If so, double yuck.

To some, simply re-entering Motorsport would be reason to celebrate. In my opinion, celebrating an achievement is more like 2 wins at LeMans.
The Gt4 has been.... as you mentioned, a participation effort at best and it was the worst team (#13)....

hey, jaguar has won LeMans 7 times. They're trying to rekindle that spirit, and I think the F-Type proves they're serious about racing again. The Project 7 is named that specifically because of those 7 wins. Why do people care so much about crap like this? It's just a limited trim package that some people will enjoy. I don't hear people freaking out because the Hot Wheels Camaro doesnt actually fit in your lunchbox.

If they continue treating their customers as they got used to, and pricing remains over-the-top,
they will soon need an 'end-of-the-line' "checkmate" model..

Perhaps because we are very passionate about our F-Type and dislike the idea of some limited clown version. In GT4 they only raced 3 times as I recall, you call that serious? It's a matter of opinions, nobody is trying to convince you and as such just respect others and their opinion. You are literally making fun of people sharing how they feel. You are in favor, good for you, I am not bashing you because of it. Do the same in return.

I would think of all people on this board you would be more in tune with what it takes to build a legitimate racing program from scratch. And how much more is at stake given the legacy they have to live up to. Yes, I call what Jaguar is currently doing "serious". Not dominating every race from day 1 does not mean they are any less serious IMO.

I didn't bash anyone and I'm sorry if it came off that way. This is a discussion - opinions are going to come from all over. My opinion is that the name of a trim package has absolutely nothing to do with making claims or winning awards. Anything that people attribute to that trim package beyond the obvious marketing play it is designed to be... well, that's not coming from Jaguar. My irritation here comes from the fact that people complain about something they literally made up themselves. John Doe decides that "checquered flag edition" has a specific meaning, and that Jaguar somehow hasn't lived up to the meaning he has created, then John Doe bashes Jaguar for doing something they never actually did. I think it's silly, and I don't mind saying so.

@FType17
I just read your signature in utter amasement.. Why didn't you just by a V8 instead of 'pumping-up' a V6 ?

LOL. I read this quote from that page and didn't even bother the rest as it doesn't matter.. Swipe left
"The package is available on F-Types with the entry-level four-cylinder engine ..."

Lighter to begin with, able to pump more boost, ability to race in certain classes that appeal to me, passion for making the car the way I want it etc.

@FType17.
OK. Good reasons so. But racing the the car? Isn't the risk of damage to the car a problem for you ?
In 'banger' racing you loose pennies. With a fender bender with the F-Type you could stand to loose
serious money. OK, its cheaper to repair then a Ferrari, but still. Can you insure this ?

Rare editions need to do something to matter. If it just a repaint, nobody would care.
