Default New F-Type info

Thoughts on this? https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/spy-shots/jaguar/f-type/

If it turns out to be true, at least the F-Type will still have a V-8 available. Going the Aston Martin route of sourcing a V-8 makes sense for a company the size of Jaguar, although, given a choice, I would take the Mercedes-Benz V-8 over the BMW.

Another pie in the sky article from the automotive press. The new F Type may or may not have an engine and it may or may not have cylinders. It may or may not have a rear seat. Spare me. Enough already.

Wow guys. Is everyone that jaded with regards to speculation on a possible new F-Type design?

Back in 2016, several members of the automotive media reported that JLR was not going to develop a new V8 and was in negotiations with BMW to use its twin-turbo V8 under license. That may or may not have been the case, but it doesn't exactly smack of a made-up story. Getting an existing V8 under license would be eminently sensible for JLR. The V8 has very limited applications in the product range, and the capital necessary to produce a new V8 could be better spent elsewhere (SUV development, other engines, EV development, etc.). So, at least from the standpoint of the engine, I believe the rumors might have some merit.

As regards the car itself, a properly executed 2+2 could be a successful replacement for both the current F-Type and the discontinued XKR. A back seat would not necessarily cause the vehicle to lose its performance car bona fides, and, assuming good looks and performance, it might just attract buyers that would currently only considera 2+2 and still keep most of the F-Type customers in the fold. I can't believe JLR would have both a 2-seat coupe and a 2+2 coupe in the lineup, so having a 2+2 with the F-Type name could be a strategy to try to capture a larger share of the market from a single model.

Ultimately, we won't know anything for certain until JLR confirms it, but every new auto design starts as rumors that slowly coalesce into something tangible. It remains to be seen whether any of the current info on the possible F-Type successor is true, but I enjoy the rumor, speculation, and uncertainty building up to the cold, hard fact of a decision to build a new model or to declare the end of the line.

I think its too early to believe any of these rumors without a little more information. Of late, the automotive industry has been flush with "factual" reports that end up being nothing but hot air. Its very likely that Jaguar will partner with someone for a new high performance engine, as we've known the current generation is on its way out for some time. However, if it was going to happen for 2020MY, I'd expect we would have had more information by now. Jaguar would have to be pretty far along in engine development for a vehicle launching early next year.

As for the 2+2 portion; we've seen and heard nothing. No spy shots showing a lengthened vehicle... no rumors or patents or anything. I think its a pipe dream for 2020MY. I'm not sure why anyone would only shop for a 2+2 anyways. The back seat will only be big enough for double amputees like every other sports car.

I think by being on these "main FType" forums you're going to quickly learn that unfortunately, these FType owners/community ain't the coolest, quite snobbish and not the most warm hearted open minded after all, as you'd kind of expect, the average person buys a vehicle that suits their personality.

Participate in enough car brand forums you'll see even more so.

usually the ones with nominal back seats still afford a bit more breathing room for the driver. At 6'7" I fit into the current F-type, but only just. I would revel in an extra centimeter or two of head, leg, knee, or shoulder room. There just aren't many options out there for tall people.

Wow, it's a good job F-Type buyers aren't average, then!

Ian wanted to create a 2+2, but JLR wouldn't fund it. Ian is gone. His successor is gone. The new design head came from LR. The new F-Type might have a spare tire lashed to the back and a winch in the front.
