Good morning! Finally took possession of a 2016 F-Type Base Coupe! I had been actively looking for nearly 4 months and took delivery (literally) just yesterday. It's an Ultimate Black (1AG) coupe with black interior. 13000 miles. No build sheet yet, the options as best as I can tell and in no particular order: leather seat inserts, black package (interior and exterior), glass roof, vision and climate, 18" Vela wheels (polished by previous owner), active sport exhaust. So, first impressions. This is the most visually balanced car I have ever owned. The rear 3/4 view is fantastic! It may seem strange to first talk "looks" rather than performance, but I think I've stared at it more than driven. The performance was a given. It corners and accelerates better than my 57 years will attempt. Last night, bringing it home from our restaurant, I got on it because my brother in law wanted to "hear it go". Pretty f'n surprising! But I'm older, and the thoughts quickly turn to responsibilities and consequence. I purchased it through Carmax. It had appeared on their app in Riverside California and the miles clinched it. I didn't want another black car, but 13k swayed me, and in the end, the entire Carmax experience was on of the easiest ever. This is the 29th car I've bought in 40 years, and it was the best "dealership" buy in years. Fair price, 24 hour test drive, flexible delivery, it was brought to our restaurant, most of the papers were e-signed and copies provided. It showed up fueled, polished, registered and insured with no doc fees. There it sits, under the carport, in my wife's spot, where my food smelly butt won't drive it till probably Monday! Hopefully everything works out, as the Greeks say, ptoo ptoo ptoo!
Congrats and welcome. I've been a forum member for about 10 months and have learned a tremendous amount about the nuances and idiosyncrasies of this car. As many have said, "Let the love affair begin."
Beautiful...you will love this Jaguar. One bit of advice: the electronic modules in this car (and in many other luxury makes) require full battery voltage to operate properly. If the battery voltage drops, apparent, and I emphasize apparent, problems will surface: random warning lights, windows or seats or touchscreen not operating propery...it can be anything. Invariably the cause is low battery voltage. If it gets really low, a message will come up asking you to "please" (yes, it is British and courtesy is de rigueur) start the engine....
Causes of low voltage: an old battery (anything over 4 years), a defective battery, but most often, simple lack of enough use to keep the battery charged. Many of these cars are used infrequently and too many are used for very short runs. The result is eventual low battery voltage, then the resultant random warnings, etc and the inevitable accusation of bad engineering by Jaguar, thus perpetuating the myth of poor quality (which is absolutely false, but it seems to please those who have never even sat in a Jaguar).
the solution:so easy. You buy and install (a 10 minute job if you are very slow) a CTEK battery maintainer, and you connect it whenever the car us not in use (a 30 second job if you are slow) . The result of this simple act will be that you will have no electrical issues at all. Many, perhaps even most list members use this device.
You can buy the CTEK at any luxury/performance car dealer: Maserati, BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Bugatti, Ferrari, Bentley, Rolls Royce, or indeed, Jaguar and Land Rover, all with their own logo on the CTEK unit. OR, for half the price you can buy the CTEK branded unit on-line or at any good auto supply shop.
I'll have to dig out the charger I had for an E70. That thing had parasitic draw issues. Hopefully I can run this car more than once a week. It has only 13k and I was told the battery has been replaced. I have a list of items to verify.
But note that the CTEK unit is not a charger...it is a battery maintainer, and while it does charge the battery it does so very gently (thus slowly). It is intended to be used to keep the battery at full charge, and it can be left connected for months and months with no danger of any damage to the battery or the electronics in the car.
Found it. It's a Battery Tender Junior 12V 750ma charger and maintainer. I bought in 2013 when I kept my 330 sitting, but also needed for an E70. I'm not even sure the entire harness is in the box.
I'll probably spring for a new CTEK.
Congrats! An FYI - I only install the front plate for state inspections, it's off otherwise. No one seems to notice or care.
Done. I put the plate and bracket in the trunk. Sorry, boot.
I was a little nervous about the inspection, but the guy was an old pro. He had his own selection of rubber inserts for his floor jack.

I've never need a battery tender for mine. I Went on a three week vacation and when I got home, the car fired right up with no issue.
