Noisy steer
Hi, anyone had or can help with this problem: when I turn the steering wheel, stationary or moving there’s a rubbing/grating noise, that gets louder, the faster you turn the steering wheel. There’s nothing inside the cabin touching the column. Underneath, I can’t see anything loose, bent or broken to the rack, control arms etc. everything looks and feels OK. Any ideas? It’s a 2015 V6S with electric, not hydraulic power steering.
Thanks will try that, you can hear the noise inside and outside of the cabin. It’s really hard to locate where it’s coming from. If I had to guess, I think it’s down by the rack itself in the engine bay, but the engine noise makes it hard to be totally sure. I can see the steering column inside the car going straight to the bull head and it all looks fine, so again, my guess is that it’s the rack itself. I’ve searched these forums and online generally and no one else mentions it anywhere, so sounds like it’s not a common fault.
The 2015 V6S had hydraulic assist, not electric assist steering - the electric assist came with the 2016 model. Unless your car is a 2016 registered in 2015 as a 2015 model year car (you do not say where you are located but is it the UK?) it will have the hydraulic system - and the answer to your question will depend on confirming the system type.
Easy enough to tell if it has hydraulic or electric power steering, just look for the hydraulic power steering fluid reservoir per this nearby post: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...4/#post2591611
If it has the reservoir it is hydraulic, if it doesn't have the reservoir it is electric.
If it has the reservoir it is hydraulic, if it doesn't have the reservoir it is electric.
