Default Is it normal to see some smoke from hood vents?

Had my 2016 F-Type for about 2 months. All has been well until I noticed some smoke / steam coming from the hood vents. Stopped immediately and checked coolant and topped it up.

3.0L V6 Supercharged (2016 Model)

Turns out it was a failed water pump and thermostat. Replaced those (Is this common)

Still seeing some smoke / steam coming from somewhere near the center front of the engine.

Wondering if this is normal and I'm paranoid. Is there any other ways to check if engine cooling system is working correctly.

Think I'll purchase an ODB Reader but any suggestions are welcome.

Ian

Could the steam be residual fluid left over from the original fault burning off? I can't think of any other reason for the car becoming a steam engine.

Give it a couple of days. There may still be some residual coolant sitting around on the engine that is steaming off. If the issue does not diminish, you may have a split coolant line.

Are you positive it isn't just heat 'shimmering' though the vents?

We notice that sometimes, but we have removed our plastic engine cover.

No issues, no coolant loss, and we don't worry.

Check the oil/water cooler under the supercharger, need a UV light.

I had this exact same issue earlier this month. Turns out I had blown a coolant line under the supercharger. Yours may have a cracked coolant line. Would highly suggest filling your coolant reservoir and checking it daily. If it drains quicker than usual (hopefully you've been checking it occasionally as its good preventative maintenance), I would take it in to the dealer if under warranty. If not under warranty, take it from someone whos been through this and spend the 130$ and get all the coolant lines replaced. It'll save you heartache for when your lines become too brittle and explode.

Could just be the coolant expansion tank cap. That's what happened to me. Steam coming out vents. Look for leakage around the cap after stopping. If so, easy fix...get a new cap.

Not sure if this is relevant but I saw a very pronounced white puff of smoke come out of the right hood vent when I started the car. The car sat outside for a few days and it rained a little. The ambient temp was anywhere between 35-50 degF during those days. Had the dealer look in to it when I took the car in for a different issue and couldn't find any issues. Haven't seen any smoke since.
