I was messing around with my hood insulation liner today and I noticed that the frame has the cutouts for the XJR vents. I'm assuming that all 2014 and above XJ hoods are like this as a cost saving measure. I just thought it was interesting and wanted to share.
I wonder if anyone has ever dared to cut their hood to fit the vents...
Some people have, but it's very noticeable as the vents sit on top of the hood and aren't flush like on the stock R hood. I did see one guy on a forum somewhere that had a shop cut and stamp his hood to have the vents sit flush, but he said the cost ended up almost as much as just buying a new r hood. And the whole hood had to be repaired anyway due to all the metal work.

Ah, I see. Yeah, the edges would have to be rounded down.
It can be done thanks to the cut outs in the sub frame of the bonnet but is still a reasonable job to do I had to make my own die and press mold to make the recess right
Xjr bonnet made from standard bonnet
As sexy as they come, love the work, the XJ looks fantastic with the R hood vents, I guess practical too for heat soak, outside of my capabilities though, but bloody nice work mate, a tad jelly.
There are a few members who have taken this on, I wish there was an R for sale when I purchased mine, but even a 5.0 S/C Portfolio in Oz is bloody rare, oh well maybe when I win lotto, lol by then we will all be driving electric dinky cars.

I have a 2014 XJR 5.0SC that I bought in Sydney and about a day after I put a deposit on the car a 2019 XJR575 came on the market...... bugger.
