Default OBDII port and battery drain

So, I learned that every time I use the OBDII port, when I am done I need to disconnect and reconnect the battery so that I don't end up with a drained battery... Is there any alternative/solution/better way?

I would love to get a head's up display for the car just to see what it is like, but they all use ODB II, so that's a no go...

This problem on my car went away after they applied the "User Experience Enhancement" Campaign. (looks like we have 2 threads going on this same issue now).

The first one (winter 2017) or the second one (fall 2017?)

2015 R.... Never had a problem and have used the obd many times. It must be certain models/years.

I always make sure to press "disconnect" on the obd device, and wait a few before turning off the ignition, so the car knows to stop talking to the obd. I don't know if this matters, but I have always done this.

I have no ideas what updates my car has had.

OT: Is there a dealer on the forum who could get me a PDF of my F's service history?

.

It might be worth having a go to see if you can register for Jaguar Online Service History (OSH), per this page and the Register Here link on it: https://www.jaguar.com/owners_intern...e_history.html.
I was able to successfully register here in Oz, and I think it should work in the US but I don't know for sure.
In the UK you can enter non-dealer services onto the system but not here in Oz (I tried but was eventually told by JLR Aust "sorry, go away").

First one. Had it done in March. I was never notified of the 2nd one.

Unfortunately, the OSH lookup service is not available to us in the US.

To muddy the water, I think it depends on what OBD device you plug in. I have a 2016MY which is up to date on all its "shots" including the User Experience Enhancement vaccine ;-)

I've periodically used a bluetooth OBD dongle from GAP Diagnostic and <ahem> the VAP tune loader. Never have had a battery problem or the hazard warning triangle dash light stay on once the car went to sleep.

Yesterday just for fun thought I would plug in the Carista OBD dongle to try it with some third party iOS tools and see what facilities they offer. After removing the Carista unit, hey presto, my warning triangle light refused to go away even after an hour or two.

Did the needful in the boot, removing the ground wire attached to the chassis (btw I did look at removing the lead at the battery side but I can tell that's going to be a b*tch in future). Problem resolved.

So this might explain why some folks see the problem and others do not and why the dealer OBD tool doesn't trigger the same issue.

YMMV.

Some dealer tools also trigger the problem.

However I get it every single time I use the VAP tool, and also have a 16MY

I have used three different OBD2 plug-ins from time to time - the VAP tool, an elm327 for the Torque app and the iCarsoft i930 code reader, and I have never had a single battery problem.
As I opined elsewhere this might just be because I have disconnected the secondary (stop/start) battery.

The 2016MY doesn't have the separate stop start battery AFAIK, so yet more mud in the waters ;-)

correct but it does have a battery control module which needs to be re-set if anything not externally powered is plugged into the obd port. disconnect neg lead from battery to reset battery control module is necessary for vehicles with one battery or two.

Only think I haven't confirmed yet is if this is still necessary with eco mode disabled

I have used both the VaP tuner and a generic OBD Bluetooth dongle for Torque code resets, both with no battery discharge issues on my '14 V6S. I have no way of checking whether the prior owner performed any software updates.

The V-Tech is the only thing I've plugged in that did not require a battery module reset. I tried a ScanGauge and a reputable brand of bluetooth adapter in conjunction with Torque.
