I have the chrome look with the bonnet vents. My dealer wanted to sell me the chrome mirror covers asl well, but I thought it would be too much [ Gypsie earrings style..].

When I just had this car I was very upset as the colour is much lighter then the configurator led you to believe... So if I had known how light the bleu would be, I think I would
have gone for the blackpack...

But your car is quit dark, not as 'almost black' as the dark bleu/green. I think it can have the red calipers and the chrome without looking too much 'in-your-face' , like my
blue car now is...

The vents have the exact shape as the J-shaped day-running-lights seen from the front... ... from the side the match the chrome on the front wings..

The car shouts so much "..look-at-me.." that many people follow it. On the highway people stay next to me to have a look..

 

A very dark car can carry some bright accents in the same way a white car should have some dark accents. I can't remember if I specifically chose red calipers or just accepted them as part of the Super Performance brake package.

I sympathize with the difference between the configurator and reality. I had my choice narrowed down to Storm Grey and Ammonite Grey, and since both were new colors, I'd have had to wait months to see either in person. I flipped a coin (mentally) and went Storm. I still have twinges of "color-choice regret" but only slightly, and they pass quickly.

 

I had an MG-F [ tiny cabrio, miato style] in 1997-2000, which was red. Then we regretted not choosing the BRG, so I mentally made a note, not to have red anymore..

But red with red calipers, red safetybelts and a blackpack.... ... I can not decide whats nicer, even now. But I do think I it hadn't been so abnoxiously expensive here, I'd have a V6 for sure..

Stunning car. A V8.. .. I'd love to have one. Maybe I should immigrate to the US.. So you have the blackpack ? Calipers are orange , isn't yellow/carbon standard on the V8 ?
The rear spoiler, is it different [looks wider] then a fixed spoiler with a smaller engine size [ V6?].

Your collour looks the same : dark in the shade and bleakish in the sun.

Would you choose this colour again, or would you go for the -more expensive- 'special' paint thats XXX-more expensive ?

 

Its an SVR, so everything you see on it is standard except the brakes.
I am also in the UK, not US.

Calipers are orange because I painted them orange, the brakes are Wortec 2PC performance brakes, they are not ceramic but they offer same weight savings as the ceramic option, but cost is vastly lower.

Yes this is my favourite colour on the F-Type and on the SVR works so well against the carbon pack which my car has from factory.

It is also one of my all time favourite colours because its always bold and bright even in the shade, when the sun does come out, the pearl really pops so nice in sunlight.

 

Gibbo, I just noticed from your engine bay pic that the SVR has plastic covers over the strut tops, and to my knowledge this is an SVR only thing. The only reason for them that I can think of is to supposedly stop water from getting onto the adaptive suspension wiring on each strut top. So why only on the SVR? Again I can only guess that the SVR bonnet vents possibly let more water in than the vents on the more mundane models although the vent openings are not directly above the strut top wires.
Point is, I doubt they make any difference at all so there's another weight reduction strategy for you!

 

I've seen other F-Types with those covers, maybe they were introduced in later years, the SVR lets a lot of water in through the vents, I removed those covers once, washed car and lifted the hood to see where water went and the top of the struts were filled with water, so I put them back on.

However when I next go drag racing I shall remove them, not for the weight saving as were talking grams but they do somewhat block the vents so without them in place even more heat can escape from the engine bay and at the drag strip the enemy is always heat and heatsoaking.

That is why I am on such a mission to reduce both weight and IAT's.

I'd just like to mention for Gibbo and others that it's a point of etiquette to keep the F-Type's hood/bonnet closed during car shows so as to not put anyone off their food from the sight of that ghastly block.

Is that V8 so ghastly then ?

 

It's no more ugly than the V6, they are both hideous due to the supercharger cooling jacket on top and all the ugly pipes that are exposed when you remove the engine cover. Of course it's especially a problem for Gibbo as he has an SVR which comes from the factory without an engine cover!

Edit - I just checked Gobbo's pics and his car has the four black "pegs" for mounting the engine cover. Why, when there is no cover? Anyway, if Gibbo wanted to, for future car shows he could source an engine cover and stick it on.

 

I should get my spare cooling jacket back from the polisher within the next 2 weeks. We'll see if that spruces things up. If it does, then I'll see about throwing out all that cheap plastic tubing and replacing it with stainless braided hose. (Is there no end to this madness?) The plastic airducts have to go as well. Time to pull out the TIG welder.

If you would ask me I would name this "charcoal black" , or "anthracite grey" , both very dark, almost black..

So they have bleuish black, greenish black and greyish black...

 

"Storm Grey" is much more 007
