Default Oil Viscosity Topic

is anyone running 5W-20 or 5W-30 or even 0W-30 in their V6 or V8 Ftype. I have both Ftype engines. What has been your experience as far as engine noise, performance, and./or oil analysis results. I have several AJ Jags (five) and have been running 0W-20 but as we know as these engines get older they tick more (not injector related - possibly cam phaser?).... and from my 165k XKR certainly run less smooth (I do 3k oil changes myself with high quality 0W-20 synthetic).

Let me know if anyone has different oil viscosity experience!

I have always used 0w-20w in my 2017 F-Type /R. The car is only driven in the summer ( June-Oct ) since I live here in Ohio. But after reading results from the Oll Guy and other test I have seen, I am prompted to change to 5w-20w at my next oil change. Seems like it would do more good than harm as my engine get older,

You'll get the full spectrum of opinions on this. A significant factor in the answer is "across what range of oil temperatures will the car be started". For example, if you live in south Florida, the car is 100% garage kept, and in a year the coldest oil temperature it is started at is 60 degrees F., then a slightly thicker oil is an excellent choice i.e. 5W-30. If you live in Canada and frequently start the engine at an oil temp of -20 degrees F then you are best served by 0W-20. All that said, for most owners who live in moderate climates, it doesn't matter and any quality oil between 0W-20 and 5W-40 changed every 5K miles would serve just fine.

The fill cap on my engine says to use 5w-20 so that is what I always use.

*Most likely* your engine won't bat an eye at a 30 weight oil, but in the end it's up to you to decide.
