This is not the first report of rusting calipers on the base model. The red and black calipers don't appear to suffer from the thin coat of paint as do the silver calipers. If you are still under warranty have the dealer repaint them the color of your choice.

Thank you for the reply, yes, it's still under warranty, it's only 4 months old.

I will report back on the outcome.

happened to me they did replace them as a one off thing but only like for like , they said they will not change anything to a different spec as per its original build , I was willing to pay the difference to upgrade them
they put it down to using the hand car wash the solvents they spray are the problem

I'd clean those wheels before taking it back to complain about the calipers!

Is that rust or brake dust reaction?

I'm sure there's a few on here who've had reports of similar issues and one or two at least have had the changed under warranty iirc.
As Burnie says though, some of these hand car wash places use a wheel spray that has acidic properties in it, although it's not on for long it will eat through and cause these issues.
My advice once their done / changed / repainted etc.....

Only use Sonnax FULL effect wheel cleaner, readily available and THE best on the market, totally 110% acid free and the brake dust and grime falls away with ease.
Good luck
Jim

Thanks Guys! In my defense, we do have our Cars hand detailed once a week, it's just that we had three or four Days of rain last week and this is my wife's daily. Having said that, the wheels do look like that after a few Days, the Brake Dust is terrible.

Having said that, I will double check that the Detailer isn't using any chemicals on the wheels. He also details my Range Rover Sport with big red Brembo's, they still look good, we have been using him for years.

Something has gone wrong, the F-Type is only 4 months old. I will swing by the dealer and I will let you know what they have to say.

I really value all your input, thank you very much!!

I'd just take it as an opportunity to DIY some red (or whatever color) caliper paint (or ceramic engine paint) on them. Every parts store rebuilt caliper comes with nasty silver paint on them, so its really not 'a look'.

and for $50, upgrade the front pads to CENTRIC 10517510 ceramics, which will dust less.

That does not look like rust, but like some sort of chemical reaction to a wheel cleaner, similar to an acid wash.

I have the same std. unpainted brake calipers you do. As Jim recommended above, I've been using Sonax Full Effect wheel cleaner on mine almost every week for nearly 2 years now, and they still look relatively new w/ no discoloration.

The calipers on my base coupe have never been washed with anything other than water and Autoglym Car Shampoo. The front calipers are fine, but the rears are corroding. 18 months and 7,800 miles.

Thank you for highlighting that acid cleaners can cause this. I have noticed some slight corrosion on my X351 calipers which may be from the cleaner I use so I will switch to the Sonax product that has been suggested.

I'm going to buy some Sonnax and give it to our Detailer, thanks for suggesting that.

In the meanwhile I called my service advisor, who I know pretty well, he asked me to email him a pic, which I did, he is going to show the manager and get back to me. He said it's not the first time he's seen this but it doesn't usually happen on such a new Car.

I don't want to harp on about our rusty Calipers, just following up for the benefit of others because I just came back from the Dealer and the service manager said this is fairly common.

Anyway, he said they will contact Jaguar HQ as it's not covered under warranty they might do it as good will, we will find out.

He said if it's denied they can have them painted, this will take about 4 Days because they need to remove them, send them to the paint shop...you know how that goes. He has no idea of cost.

Also, LH air vent , the black finish on the trim has started to peel, they will ask about that too.

What on earth is your dealer doing?! Why do they have to "ask" about these things? This is a brand new car and these are items clearly covered under warranty. Whats to ask!?

Haha, the Momas and Papas were actually lying when they said it never rains in Southern California , we had 3 or 4 days of light drizzle last week but the car was detailed yesterday so it looked good when I visited today. just like it normally does mate.

Some dealers are more "creative" than others.

Is it confirmed that centric has these pads in production in stock? oem pads dust are killer.
