Default P0442 Code..(Small Leak)

So I'm getting a warning on my dash that says "Check fuel cap filler". Code in my OBD is "P0442". Does the car have a specific fuel cap sensor or is it generic for a P0442 code to come up like that and it could be in the engine bay.

Issue: I have recently replaced the fuel cap as the previous owner some how cut the cord. The new one was bought on eBay OEM. We have also tore the car completely apart and had the emission system apart and put back together. I looked and everything appears to be ok and connected.

Im just wondering if the code would be different for a purge valve failure compared to single P0442 "small leak" only...and are all small leaks warning to the instrument panel brought on as "Check Fuel Filler Cap" - even if its not that? I am not getting a check engine light either....just a Triangle/exclamation warning every other startup to check the fuel filler cap which is good, and even has suction when opened??

Responded to your other post:

Usually the gas cap.

Check the seal inside it, also verify that there are no knicks or scrapes on the sealing surface of the filler.

Google provided this:

Common Causes:
  • Fuel Cap: A loose, damaged, or improperly sealing fuel cap is a frequent culprit.
  • EVAP System Components: Leaks can also occur in the fuel lines, vapor lines, charcoal canister, purge valve, vent valve, or other parts of the EVAP system.
  • Leak Detection Pump (LDP): The LDP, which helps detect leaks, could be malfunctioning.

I know you mentioned you replaced the fuel cap but did you get the correct one? I had same issue but bought the incorrect cap initially so had to verify against the VIN to get the right one.

Looks like it should be the correct one per harper jaguar parts. We shall see how this plays out I started the car and drove it 3 different times today- no warning.
