Default Park Assist Button

How do I get the park assist feature to work? I read it other threads where you just press the button next to the center console when you are in low speed. Mine doesn't even light up. Do I need to tap/double tap/hold to engage it?

Just press that P button (on our '14). It you watch the screen, it takes FOREVER to initialize... so look ahead. The indicator SHOULD light up right away...

You need to be crawling (dead-slow).

If you are idling in D the button light should go on as soon as you press it. If it doesn’t, something is broken.

Yeah that seems probable, I'll have to check each sensor to see which one is broken. There is no specific fuse that control the parking sensors right?

If it was a sensor, you should see a dash warning. Whichever module controls that function may be bad. As with all problems, the first thing to do is to try a system reset by disconnecting the battery for 10 to 15 seconds.

Mine come on automatically when I put the gearbox into reverse and stays on even going forward as long as I don't exceed the cutoff speed (3mph?). I can engage it manually with the button, again as long as I'm below that speed. Mine's a '16 (manual transmission, but I don't think that makes a difference in this case.

I agree that it sounds like something is amiss with yours. Will it come on idling in Park if you push the button? If not, something is definitely wrong.

It is on in the camera settings along with back-up camera trajectory, unless there is another way to disable it.

Are you all talking about the same thing? One is the beepy sensors, the other one is where the car finds spaces and then steers you into them. I dont have the latter in our F Type. I've had it in both XE's but never used it.

The beeping sensors (little round pucks, 4 in front, 4 in rear). They should activate when you press the 'park assist' button in the F-type (the button stays lit), for some reason mine doesn't work. So I am trying to figure out whether the sensor(s) are broken or it could be the park assist module that's fried.

Cheers, it should automatically engage when you go into reverse.

Park Aid and Park Assist are two different things and people often confuse them. Jaguar would have done everyone a favor if they had chosen a different descriptive phrase for one or the other of them. Park Assist helps the driver manuever the vehicle into a parking space. Park Aid is suppose to assist (damn, shouldn't have used that word) the driver in not bumping into things in the night (or day)--although Park Aid is so slow to respond it's practically worthless.

I thought Park Assist actually drives the vehicle into a parking space, no driver involvement at all. That's what my manual says, anyway, as it mentions that you can cancel Assist during the manoeuver and park manually. There's a difference between helping (AID) and taking over completely.

The driver has to push the button?

Pedant! The driver also has to drive the car to where he wants it parked, and line it up past the space.

With Assist you still have to use the accelerator. The car just identifies the park for you and steers the car in. It can do parallel parks and the ones at 90 degree angles. But the OP is talking about the other one, just the sensors giving warnings engaged when you put the car into reverse, or with the button on the infotainment.

When was parking assist first offered on the F-Type?

Not sure. it looks like it is in the new ones. We had it in our '15 XE and have it in our '20 XE.

It's mentioned in my MY18 manual (but not fitted to my car).
