Thank god! You shouldn’t have a license if you can’t back into a parking space.

When I got my licence many moons ago one part of the test was "ranking" (wot we in Oz call backing into a parallel parking spot between two other cars).
Fail that test and you failed the whole test, come back in six months' time to try again.
I don't know how many chance/goes you got on the first ranking test coz I aced it first time!
In fact I aced the entire test except for one little hiccup - apparently I didn't quite come to a complete stop at a stop sign.
The tester (it was a cop back then) decided to forgive me that indiscretion and passed me.

Parallel parking was a requirement on our driving test as well, back in the late '80s in Wisconsin.

Well, when I got my license we were given three tries to back that wagon into it's proper place--what with the contrariness of some mules that had never been to town before.

While we're on this subject, can someone with a MY 2018 with just Park Aid answer a simple question?
Does the hard switch on your dash stay lit the entire time Park Aid is engaged? Mine does not, and I sometimes find myself wondering if the option is still active.

You could test it by driving near objects with the switch light out and see if you get the warning beeps.

Same here, it's very annoying so I always immediately hit the button and turn it off.

I'd rather hear the BEEP than hear the CRUNCH.

The initial question was about the forward-facing warnings, wasn't it? Those don't go on automatically, and as I said, takes MANY seconds to initialize. (You need to press the button as you enter the parking LOT, not the parking SPACE!)

the rear camera initializes quicker, and I'm pretty sure that the beeps start right away, as I've never hit the frame of my garage door.

So the answer is to stop briefly on the way in, select R, then drive forward again?

Of course not, it is NEVER that easy with Jaguar....

It still takes (what seems like) an ETERNITY to switch from rear-facing camera to front warning /overhead display.

Not here, mine is instant.

Same. My 2017 is instant if I got from R to forwards. And also if I hit the Park button when driving forwards I get the front beepers immediately.

+1. On mine, the button light illuminates as soon as I depress the button while the car is moving forward. However, the proximity graphics do not appear until one of the sensors is triggered and you hear the first beep. Maybe that’s what makes some think there is a delay.

When pulling in my garage I park very close to my boat. So close that I keep a piece of heavy duty foam taped to the trailer in case I misjudge the distance ( hasn’t happened yet ). The parking sensors come on long before I get close and I have to turn them off because they get faster the closer I get but pulling into a parking spot they hardly ever go off and I am pretty sure they would let me run into the curb.
Perhaps the side sensing part of the system is more sensitive than the forward sensing?

When I first got my car, the sensors would not detect curbs unless they were unusually tall ones. With lowering the car and repositioning the sensors on the P7 grille, they detect most curbs, except for very shallow ones.
