Hello all. I am in the process of doing speaker upgrades to my 2015 F-type S convertible with the 380W Meridian system. I have decided to go with OEM replacements for the speakers. I already have the CPLA-18808-JA mids to go in the doors. I am looking to purchase the titanium tweeters next and have a question on the ones I have found for sale. They are listed as AW93-18808- AC which is one of the correct model numbers, but the dome of the tweeter is black in color. The other titanium tweeters I have seen posted are .... titanium / silver in color. The grill of the tweeter is the same style as the titanium tweeters that I have seen in other posts with titanium color domes. I have attached a pic of one of the speakers in question. if anyone could confirm that it is a titanium tweeter, it would be helpful. Thank you.
Hi @SurfCat , here's a cross reference table for all the speakers fitted to the F-Type (Base, 380W and 770W all use the same speakers, just the extra centre co-axial on the 770W). The early Base models, didn't have the rear sub fitted, only the 3" mid for reverse sensor warning.
Here's the original tweeter (BJ32-18808-AC) on the left (silver cone), next to the Meridian Signature tweeter (AW93-18808-AC) on the right (black cone, spiral grille)
So yes, the black cone tweeter you have pictured is the upgraded titanium speaker (mostly sourced from XF or high end LR models with Meridian Signature system).
One or two owners who have done the speaker upgrade with OEM Jaguar Meridian Signature/Bowers & Wilkins speakers, report the titanium speaker can sound somewhat too sharp and 'tinny'. Personally I found it to be an improvement all round when I did the full upgrade. Hope you enjoy the improved audio, but word of advice, make the effort to sound proof the doors while you have the door cards off. The door cavity is quite large and acts as an amplifier for road noise, killing any efforts to tighten up the cabin audio. Well worth the extra effort
@genp729 Thank you for the chart and information. I look forward to making this set of upgrades. I feel that my current 380w Meridan system sounds good to very good depending on the source. It is sometimes hard to not tinker when you know there are other options out there to try. Did you only swap the speakers, or did you swap the amp as well? I currently have a DX23-19C164-BA sitting on my desk which is the 770W upgrade amp but it is out of a 2015 XF. I do not think it will work quite right in my vert without programming to correct the parameters for the F-type, adding the surround center channel, providing the bass boost with top down, etc. Again, thank you and any advice you have is greatly appreciated.
@SurfCat I only went as far as upgrading the door and rear speakers, plus 3 layer sound deadening on the doors. The amp on my 2018 is on a totally different comms bus to yours and requires Pathfinder to reprogram. You have the correct 770W upgrade amp for your model year, but will need to update the CCF fie with SDD to get everything up and working, see this thread --> https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...9/#post1476562. Dealer won't be willing to help you with this, so you'll have to find someone with SDD skills in your area. Finally, you'll have to source a centre co-axial speaker (Original BJ32-18808-DC, C2Z22817) or (Upgrade AW93-18808-EC, C2D24865) to add the centre fill channel. The wiring should be in place.
