Parts cost speculation
I am not impressed:

Reuters has obtained documents from a lawsuit indicating that Jaguar Land Rover, Peugeot, Renault and other automakers have been using Accenture software (Partneo) that recommended price increases for spare parts based on "perceived value."
Perceived value and availability. There is also the turn rate to consider as parts on shelves constitute 'frozen capital' that is sometimes offset by increasing the prices of fast-moving parts.
I forgot about having to sit on capital.
And subsequently realized these manufacturers are forced to produce parts that sit on a shelf forever by design.
Assuming there are laws that say a cat-converter must last 5 years and you must have spares on a shelf ready to go.

"Ever had the nagging suspicion that your car's manufacturer was charging outrageous prices for parts simply because it could?"
Oh yes definitely.
Used to own a Nissan GT-R.
Remember being quoted £800 for a wing mirror.
GR6 dual clutch transaxle are £20,000 I believe.
With some parts it's possible to find different prices for the same parts fitted to different manufacturer cars
