(upper and lower)

dealership charged me $250 total for the parts to replace the intake manifold gasket. Seems kind of steep for gaskets. (and no, the $250 does not include labor)

How much should the parts be? Or is this a reasonable price?

Or the manifold gaskets sold in sets of 6 or sold individually?

Hi there.

Here is the part number for the gaskets XR843536

Jaguar Parts - Direct JPLV Porsche Parts.com

Seems like they cost ~ $10 each. So you need 6 of them + shipping and etc should be around ~$80 in total.

I changed mine a few months ago, but bought the parts directly from a dealer. And if I'm not mistaken the gaskets were ~ $16 each. But, keep in mind that I bought only the upper gaskets.

Regarding the labor, I guess they gonna charge you for 2-3 hours, which completely does not make any sense, as you can change the gaskets yourself and it takes about 30-60 min for everything.

FelPro makes aftermarket gaskets available at any BIG box auto parts store. Alot cheaper than OEM.

The upper gaskets through a place like Advanced are $18 (total) plus local tax and the lowers are like $23 (total). So, for me, to pay what you did, I would have a real hard time with that.

+1

I'd print out the following and take it in to them and complain. Not that they have to do anything about it at this point, but it is worth a shot.

Fel Pro MS96485 Engine Intake Manifold Gasket Set | Gaskets, Seals & O-rings | Free Shipping over $50 | AutoShepherd $15.05

2002 Jaguar X-Type Intake Plenum Gasket | Car Stuff $12.68

A few weeks back I ordered the FelPro gaskets online, they were 15~20 for each 'set of six' gaskets. Many sites will charge 10-15 per gasket, run away from those. If you aren't comfortable removing the intake yourself (it's not for everyone due to risk of dropping something directly in to a cylinder) then you can replace every gasket and o-ring for $50~75. There are some great walkthroughs available. Took me about 2 hours for my first time.

Sorry to hear about your experience.

I have used Felpro gaskets in a lot of vehicles and never had a problem with their quality. One install is all it took to get a good seal. They have worked for me.

Check Amazon.com I got the upper and lower set for 25 Bucks, Fel Pro tossed in the 2 IMT O-rings with the upper gaskets. I also got the breather hose for 35 bucks and a Ignition coil for 35 bucks. If you try to put the gaskets in yourself, start early in the morning, it's a bit intimidating at first but it is do-able. I would have thought in the Raleigh, NC area the box stores would have the parts, but they don't, I had to order them online. The only thing the box stores have in stock around here are the oil, gas and air filter, spark plugs.

I like to put in my two cents opinion; When you need some parts replacement, if it's not a mechanical engine parts, you don't need to buy OEM, just buy after market parts they are a lots cheaper and just as good as OEM, or find the used part in the junk yards, yours is old car any way. Go online E-bay, I found the "Parts Geek" online is very good price, quick shipping, they have almost every things for X-Type.
