Default Perfect Substitute Replacement AGM Battery

Just a heads up, I replaced my factory jaguar AGM in the 2020 R today with the Duracell Platinum AGM Group 49(H8) from Sams Club for $201.00 out the door. Dimensions, hold down and post arrangement are identical to the factory battery. Specs are slightly better I think. Full three year replacement guarantee from Sam's Club, Bite me JLR....

Speaking of batteries...does anybody know if f type battery specifications have changed throughout the years? Although the battery in my 2018 is still performing well, I have, on occasion, searched for an eventual replacement and it seems as if nearly all the battery manufacturers report that they do not make one for 2018. Costco handles Interstate and the same thing happens when using their site. Seems odd. Does anybody know anything about this? Thanks!

You are correct...seems strange.

Looking at the Interstate Battery site, they list the MTX-49/H8 battery to fit 2014-2017 Fs. (90 CCA)
https://www.interstatebatteries.com/...r-f-type-v630l

Seems comparable in statistics to the list provided by @scm

Haven't investigated connection variability for the 2018 (terminal position etc). But if it would fit and the terminals reach, Costco should be able to order one, if you can get by the counterman's objection if he says "That won't fit your 2018".

was in Costco looking at the Interstate H8 this week while getting tires on another car. $197 + $15 core + tax. Several were in stock.

Pretty much the same as the factory battery.

My guess is it's because the F-Type changed from the two battery start/stop system to a single battery system with the 2016 model year, but I always thought the main battery remained the same?

Yes, the main battery remains the same for all years.

That second battery is a bugger to find. Somehow someway the original in my 2014 is still holding strong. JLR wants a small fortune for what looks like an AGM Riding Lawnmower battery.

The secondary battery is an Exide EK151 with a JLR sticker whacked on it.
And you are correct it is tough to find outside of Europe/UK.
Just disconnect it or remove it, no more annoying start/stop and no hassles!

I have to ask why you would want to replace it…that would mean that the irritating stop/start system would work again. I am sorry that yours still functions🙂

Why are people so bothered by start/stop? It works seamlessly - I like it.

I hate it.
It has no place on a sports car / performance car like the F-Type.
Econobox maybe, F-Type no way.
Never mind that even when working to spec it makes SFA difference to fuel economy.

This. The whole point of stop/start is to eek out 0.5-1.0 mpg more from a vehicle (and JLR does it across the board to help the corporate fleet average), but the proper mission of the F-Type is the exact opposite of conserving fuel. If you're driving a 575HP V-8, chances are fuel efficiency is not at the top of your priorities for that vehicle. JLR could shoe it with all-season tires as well if practicality was the priority. But it's not, so they don't.

Boy, THIS battery discussion went sideways, suddenly!

The whole point of stop/start
