Don't believe you are going to get Playlists from a thumb drive or similar static file storage media. Playlists are a function of the music app or software on your phone, iPod, or other media player.

I have all of my favorite music stored on a thumb drive in a file structure listing all the artists in the first level, their albums in a second level, then the songs at the third level. The Meridian Receiver recognizes that much, which allows me to scroll or search by Artist.

But I have not had any luck pulling up groups of songs by genre, or any other playlist designation, unless playing the same collection of music directly from my phone, rather than the thumb drive.

If the head-unit recognizes playlist files such as .m3u then it would be able to play them. I haven't tried, but put an .m3u file with all the music in the playlist on a USB and it may work.

When I get home and have some time to play, this is my next test...

The head-unit in the Jag is pretty dumb. It won't even "see" an .m3u file. If I place the file alone in a directory called Playlists, it will see the directory, when I select the directory, it tells me "no playable media"...

You will need to have the .mp3 music files that are listed in the .m3u file in the same folder in order for the playlist to play. The .m3u just tells the head unit what order to play the .mp3 files in.

When I get some time I will give it a try as well.
