It is really hard to photograph but if you look closely at your windshield you will be able to see where the metallic “tint” ends around the dots. That will give you the exact size of the cutout.

I think the little cutout is only on the F-Pace
on the XF, there are little spaces on the bottom left and right corners that do not have the electric coils....but those are not optimal places for radar detectors.

Ive made a similar post in the past, people responded with good information
The coils aren't causing the problem. It's the fact that your heated windshield coincidentally also has the IR attenuation layer.

I had an XF with heater coils. Everything worked fine. 2017 F Type --> same heater coils but added IR attenuation. Nothing works unless high up in the cutouts.

So, from this thread and some others it looks like a windshield mounted radar detector won't work for my 2018 w/heated windshield? FWIW - I have an EZ tag (toll tag) transponder on my windshield but according to my account it's always camera toll (vtoll or iop-i transaction) vs my suv which is always transponder toll (avi transaction).

TIA

You got it. You provided the proof...very observant, looking at the EZ Pass data.

My EZpass transponder mounted At the top the windshield right next to the the sensors behind the rearview mirror can be read through the heated windshield.

It sounds like that's where my EZtag is also. Just to the right (passenger side) of the sensor, behind the rearview mirror.

Bummer... I was hoping to pick up an Escort w/dash cam attachment.

My last post that you replied to contains the answer. It's not the heating elements. All of the windshields beginning in 2017 contain IR attenuation that blocks radar detectors and toll tags. There is a small cutout next to the rear view mirror but you can't successfully mount a radar detector there.

That must be it. My windshield has no attenuation.
