Default Radio on and off control

newbie here, just picked up my F type R coupe a few weeks ago and finally got around to setting up my “favorites” on the Sirius satellite radio. Figured that one out, but couldn’t see where the radio can be turned off ( is it always on?) and the volume controls are only on the steering wheel controls (left side up and down arrows). Am I correct with these two guesses or did I miss something? Oh, by the way, came from new GTR, new Z06 and new Challenger Hellcat. Really like this new little beast!

There is a small audio control knob to the right of the gear shift handle. Pushing on button turns audio system on and off as well as rotating the knob controls the volume. Did you get the Owners manual and quick start guide? Also what year is your car?

And the beauty of the audio system on/off button is you don't need to turn the car on (not even to just "accessories") before it works, saves lots of mucking about.
Only problem though is the infuriating JLR battery saving system which automatically shuts the audio down after 10 minutes of play, so you have to hit the button again to turn it back on.

Yep, I received all the manuals with the car. I struggle with finding answers with these UK manuals, though. Tried to get an answer last evening going thru the manuals and came up with zero. Had the same issue with trying to find the engine break in procedure. Those blokes don’t write owners manuals like us Yankees do. Heck, engine break in is always listed in American cars in the very beginning of the O/M and listed in the index. Love the car, though, just kinda been figuring it out as I go along whistling....but those 2 radio questions baffled me. I’ll check it out when I get my car back, being Ceramic Pro coated right now....you know, black is beautiful, but a b*tch to take care of. Ceramic Pro makes it easy!!

Well, there's usually a few friendly forum members around to answer questions! Just had my (white) car redone with film and ceramic.

Scroll to second image of interior. See small knob to right of shifter.

When I first got my F-Type, I thought the radio button was the cigarette lighter!

This is absolutely bazaar! I never even tried that knob simply because the dealer employee who demo'd all the controls and showed me what did what (you know the drill, they tell you 500 things and you remember maybe 10!) , told me that it was a power outlet (a.k.a. cigarette lighter) and the "knob" in it was just a dummy. How about that for horse manure! Can't wait to try it out when I get the car back....thanks, everyone!

I love that knob as it falls right to hand without looking. No looking at three screens to find it
Also, I find it easier to use the steering wheel controls to move a few clicks, the actual volume knob for bigger movements.

Well it appears you have the AT if that picture looks familiar. If you had the MT, that button is just forward of the stick, and a pita to have to reach over/around the stick to get at.

Tzoid indicated he had an R. I wonder how much thought JLR gave that placement.

It’s pretty easy to find in the users manual - in a section called audio / video overview. Button 1

Deselect "My Music" as your audio source. (or turn off the sound system).

If it’s and iPhone the auto play is an Apple thing - very annoying and no way to switch it off. Only solutions are the ones that Unhingd has given.

This conversation reminds me I need to pull out my manual to find something. Although if anyone knows off the top of their heads, I'll take that. I've added songs to my memory and now have no idea how to access said memory. I remember them telling me how to save CDs into the "changer" memory, but can't figure out where it goes if you're listening to something and hit the add to memory. I keep forgetting to look at the manual for it.

And yes, the auto play seems automatic, but I have discovered that it seems to go to whatever app I was last using (Podcast, Spotify and if nothing, then it defaults to iTunes). And the easy way around is like Unhingd says - I generally leave it on Sirius so when I get in, it's there and not automatically pulling from my phone.

I believe what you're referring to is a feature of Sirius/XM (which I've never used.) Tell it you like a song, and it will give you an alert when it's playing on any of the S/XM channels. Doesn't actually save the song.

Don't know if you can review the list of 'saved' songs.

Well that's a less helpful feature than I was hoping for. I don't recall seeing any alerts when the songs play again, but it's probable I wasn't paying attention. I just saw the "save to memory" one day when I was looking at the song information and hit it and then realized I had no idea what it does and of course since I'm usually driving when I do it, I promptly forget when I stop to look at the manual. At least I figured out how to clear out the "changer" memory since sometimes I'd hit that accidentally and the previous owner apparently liked some really freeform jazz.

I never listen to the radio, but my car keeps reverting back to the radio when I stop music on my iPhone. Is there anyway to have that not happen?

I hate having it play when I have stopped the car and I’m getting out.
