Default Rear Fog Lights not working

Hi all,

It was quite foggy this morning and I wanted to use my rear fog lights. However, when I pressed the button nothing happened, the fog light icon did not illuminate in the dashboard and the rear fog lights didn't work.

Did anyone else face the same issue?

Did you have your headlights turned on?
The fog lights only work with the headlights on.

The headlights were on Auto setting.

Which means the fog lamps should work, so I'm stumped!

it only works when its somewhat dark outside. For example, when I try to activate it in the middle of the day outside, it doesn't work at all. however, in the parking garage it turns on.

So maybe it's what I first thought, that the headlights (or the parkers) have to be actually on (shining), even though the Owner's Manual says they should work as long as the headlights, parkers or "auto" are on.

I think your assumption is correct.

My understanding is that the headlamps have to actually be lighted for the fog lights to works. Therefore, if in Auto-mode. it has to be dark enough for the headlamps to fire up before the fogs are functional. Gotta turn the lights to "on" if you want fogs during the day.

You are right. I took my car to an underground parking and the fog lights worked fine.
Tomorrow I will try to manually switch the front lights on then switch on the fog lights, but I think it should work fine.

Thanks all for the help.

As has been found, that instruction has to be taken "literally". i.e. the headlamps, parking lamps or auto lamps need to be on and not just selected. Most (maybe all?) cars are like that.

When driving in fog you should always select manual lights and not rely on the auto settings else it usually means you'll be driving along in fog with no external lamps on. The sensors are not clever enough to look at the actual road visibility yet, and daytime fog is nice and bright!

Also is every car I have owned the fogs automatically turn off the moment the high beams are on.

I think that might be front fogs (which the F-Type doesn't have), we are talking rear fogs here.
